The total solar eclipse was visible in Cokeville with daylight fading to darkness from 4:06 PM to 6:17 PM. Spectators noted a fiery corona around the Moon and dark shadows crossing the land, with many calling it the most beautiful sight to behold.
The Remount Depot of the 1st Division in camp will host a Sunday afternoon Military Horse Show on June 16 in the arena built last year. Captain J W Jackson leads the event with animals and equipment loaned by officers to aid training for war and to raise money for athletic funds. Attendance is urged to support the show and reduce debt after last year’s poor turnout due to bad weather.
To Better Organization The Boy's Lamb Club will meet Saturday afternoon in the school house at 2 P.M. Every young man desirous of becoming a member should be present. T. K. Collett leads the club with M. C. Maughn, county superintendent, to deliver an address. The meeting aims to better and enlarge the organization.
T. K. Collett spent time in town for the Boys Lamb Club and other business. He notes it is hard to leave the ranch as crops grow rapidly and need moisture. Collett expects to cut about 900 tons of alfalfa this season and predicts a banner year in every line.
A Cokeville native in France, Private Timothy Schies of the 1st Army Corps writes from the front dated May 5 1918. He describes trench proximity to Man’s Land, shells, and air raids, the enemy’s tricks, and pride in being American. He recalls fear, rescues, and the brutal realities of warfare while affirming resolve to win.
On Monday H H Smalley of Reynolds Smalley and Larson received a request from Hon A Hoskins of Kemmerer to lead local thrift stamp sales. The National War Savings Committee targets 1000000000 in stamps and Cokeville has a 472 quota. Acting Governor Houx proclaims Friday June 28 War Savings Day urging residents to pledge Thrift or War Savings stamps.
A west bound freight struck a band of Cotswold sheep about half a mile from the Border on the OSL line. Thirty two sheep were killed, including three lambs. Five herders were present, and the engineer may not have whistled. The loss is heavy for owner Lige Christensen.
Sammie Ace Shot Word reports Lieut Douglas Campbell wounded during an attack on Huon planes. Campbell is son of Prof. W. W. Campbell of Lick Observatory and cousin of Cokeville resident C. G. Peters of Lincoln Lumber Company.
The Ladies' Guild met Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. P. W. Olson's home to conduct business and Red Cross work. Officers elected: Mrs. B. H. Smakey president, Mrs. Smith vice president, Mrs. Catherine Bell secretary, and Mrs. R. D. Boomer treasurer. A luncheon was served.
German alien females aged 14 and over must register as German Alien Enemies at Cheyenne Laramie Rock Springs and Sheridan with the Chief of Police and at other Wyoming towns with the nearest postmaster. The 6 AM to 8 PM daily period runs June 17 to June 26 1918 except Sundays, with penalties for noncompliance.
L A Woodward found his house entered and a liquor store room broken into. He and Dick Roberts pursued the thief and caught one man, Jas Benner, bound over to district court for grand larceny. A repeat break in had occurred at his home.
Local stockmen meeting in Kemmerer and Cokeville discussed the dipping order with government officials. The period was extended from June 20 to July 15, allowing dipping in private vats and permitting creosol use only as per regulations. Doctors Howe O Neil Shambeau and Lamb attended the sessions and the action received broad approval.
A patriotic lecture by Minas Jewell at the Presbyterian church last Sunday evening attracted a large crowd. Attendees praised her as a remarkable speaker and commended the address for its clear delivery and compelling content.
The London show arrives in Cokeville Monday June 17 with trained animals, aerial acts, juggling, balancing acts, and comedians. Two performances, afternoon and night, promise lighthearted entertainment for families and visitors alike.
Cokeville citizens traveled to Kemmerer to pay last respects to J. H. McMinn late Lincoln County sheriff. The three mile long funeral cortege included lodge members, pallbearers from Evanston Big Piney Cokeville and others with artfully arranged flower tokens. Attendees from Cokeville listed include P W Olson Walt Smalley Earl Haggerty Geo Bourne and Frank Roggenbuck.
On Thursday last week the county commissioners met at Kemmerer and appointed Deputy Sheriff Ben Bell to succeed Mr. McMinn as sheriff of Lincoln county. Bell has held the peace officer position since Jan 1 and is capable of handling the work.
Jazz lovers packed the Opera house Thursday for Rath bun players show and dance. The crowd spilled out just before train No. 4 to bid farewell to Jack Hinkey called in the special draft with plenty of well wishes and cheers.
A notice states residents may donate pony old rubber tires and beverage bottles and that a Junior Red Cross representative will collect them next Wednesday. The fragment mentions irony and a Bert %, with unclear surrounding context.

M Maughn of Afton, representing Lincoln County Agricultural Department, aided Cokeville ranchers by poisoning grain to kill ground squirrels. The free service, funded by ranchers supplying grain and ingredients, reports 85 to 100 percent kills in Star Valley. The program extends to government grazing lands and will continue into Jackson Hole and Mig Piney, aiming to greatly reduce squirrel numbers.

A notice from the State Penitentiary reports that convicts Shelby and Fig Tae were captured in Pocatello last Friday by Officer Captain W. H. Brine. The pair had escaped from the Salt Creek Canyon convict camp last week.
Chas Bagley recently returned from the Halfway station on the Cokeville Afton road where he spent weeks with the Fred Stoffer herds. He notes three herds averaged 74 percent lambing totaling about 5100 lambs, while at the Stoffer ranch 1700 ewes lambed at 115 percent.
U S L supervisor Welch spent Wednesday in Cokeville on general business. Decision pending on whether new freight rates take effect July 15 or July 10. The planned tariff increase is about 25 percent.
Three more youths are drafted from Cokeville for county call. Raymond J. Francis and W. Jackson depart June 21 for American Lake. Jack Hinkey joins a government ordered special draft for a mechanics training course in Logan Utah. Lincoln district sent 50 men.
The Wyoming State Highway Commission invites sealed proposals by June 22 1918 for six and 23 one hundred miles of Section one of the Cokeville Star Valley road. Specifications and forms may be seen in Cheyenne or Lincoln County Clerk offices. Proposals require five percent cash draft or certified check. Bids will be publicly opened and read. the commission may reject any or all bids.
