Mrs Branner to Lander Home in Cokeville Case

Mrs Emil Branner of Cokeville was brought from Rock Springs after a sheriff detainment and hearing in Cokeville. A Kemmerer judge and county attorney debated mental fitness, with Dr J A Edwards deeming her consistently below par. She will be moved to the Lander home for the feeble minded, likely within days. Wyoming Women to Register for National Service July 17

Wyoming women face July 17 registration for national service following Governor Houx proclamation. About 35 000 could volunteer. registration will happen at voting precincts under women volunteers. Counties are organized. larger towns arrange transport to maximize turnout. Blanks go to precinct registrars and then to Mrs J H Stoner to forward to Washington.

Long Quarrel Ends In Shooting Near Elk

Richard Thornton known as Dismal Dick was shot and killed by William Stilson at the Stilson ranch near Elk after a long feud. The shootout followed Thornton riding with a rifle to confront Stilson over disputed fence and land lines. An inquest found no crime. Stilson returned to Jackson with his wife and child as Thornton’s body was buried on his Elk ranch.

Calves Branding Accident Injures Roy Collett at Stoner Ranch

Roy Collett suffered a severe injury Thursday at the Stoner ranch while assisting Maurice Taylor and Roscoe Stoner during branding. A calf kicked as he held a large knife, severing a palm artery and causing deep hand trauma.

Five Hundred Sheep Lost in Cokeville Area

George Murdock of Cokeville reports the loss of five hundred head of his sheep this season. The cause is unknown and it was only after checking the shearing corrals that he learned of the shortage. He has advertised brands and earmarks and offers a $500 reward for the return of the sheep.
