Sheep Sale in Cobram Sees Strong Demand for Woolly Stock

Messrs Vargenty and Company Ltd report a highly successful Cobram sheep sale with 7000 woolly sheep yarded and near total clearance. Prices rose across classes, led by Corriedale ewes and first cross ewes, with figures ranging from £6/11 to £2/9 for lambs and wethers.

Cobram 100 Road Race Delivers Tight Open Finish

Alf Paterson of Sydney wins the handicap section after starting at 18 minutes 30 seconds in a field of 25 riders. Don Aldridge posts a race record 3 hours 49 minutes 55 seconds, with Bob Shadforth the first Cobram rider home in ninth. The event includes celebrations by Melbourne officials and prize and trophy presentations honoring Paterson and Shadforth.

Water-Users Committee to Persist Under Drought Strain

The Cobram Shire meeting chaired by Dr. N H Jordan continued the Water-Users Advisory Committee with 20 diverters present. Mr. Ferguson noted near drought conditions before rain and urged organization, confirming a 550 acre limit and licenses tied to four six inch waterings, with meter measures as needed.

Cobram Diggers Golf Day Set for Sunday at Links

Organiser T P Grigg reports all arrangements complete for Cobram Diggers Golf Day at Cobram Barooga links. About 250 golfers and visitors are expected with Ken Markey, Murray Pullar handling luncheon and barbecue. Eric Harden and Dick Gedye run the board. Bruce Jones oversees the 19th and hosts Cafe Royal on the house for early birds. Play starts 0900 with events for ex servicemen and non servicemen. visitors welcome.
