The Country Fire Brigades Board orders monthly siren tests from 7.15 to 7.45 p.m. on the third Tuesday. Next test is July 18. Twenty four cards contested in the men's week end event with G Gilligan winning A grade 85 65 and M Scott taking B grade 95 64 on a count back from K Grant 93 64. Ken Grant carded a hole in one at 145 yards. Associates winner Mrs Woolford 101 68. Other scores listed for A B and Associates divisions with numerous participants.
A Swan Hill public meeting convened by Hons. F. E. Old and P T. Byrnes backed establishing a Prisoner of War Centre in the Swan Hill district to aid manpower for primary producers. NSW Agriculture will conduct a land survey in Berrigan and irrigation areas will shape new farming prospects. Mildura council agrees to hire architect Heath for a 100 guineas city plan. Wentworth council notes land donation offer from Mrs. Grieve for a War Service homes site in Adelaide Street.
The Lalalty Branch of the Australian Red Cross met with Mrs. E. W. Coldwell presiding. The year ended 30 June 1944 saw varied activities including an Opportunity stall and school working bee fundraisers, wool sales, and P.O.W. fund contributions. Funds raised totalled £146 4s 4d, exceeding the quota by £6, with elected officers including Mrs. Coldwell president and Mrs. F. Merriman secretary.
