The death occurred Saturday morning of William Stephen Levings aged 80. A Cobram resident since 1886 he witnessed the town's growth and had lived retired since 1923. The funeral was Sunday with Mr Binns officiating. He is survived by three sons and four daughters.
Weather has brought cold nights with severe frost recently. A Prisoner of War Ball at Cobram on Friday July 7 will feature dancing with Gervasoni’s and RAAF orchestras and Debutantes. The Cobram Lodge LO O F elected officers and discussed Mooroopna Hospital relief, planning August joint fund efforts.
Mr John Weiss will wed Miss Brown as Mr and Mrs Kemp from Mildare arrive in Cobram where Kemp will manage the Courier. A death in June marks the passing of Annie Walsh, former district resident and eldest daughter of the late M Walsh. L J Edwards injured his left eye while cutting wood and was sent to Melbourne after treatment by Dr Kennedy.
R Cox won A grade with 76 13 63 while H Dawson captured B grade with 103 handicap 67. Mrs Dawson took the Associates event with 108 37 71. Other scores include HL Shier 85 14 71 and G Wilton 80 8 72 in A grade, plus multiple entries across B grade and Associates.
The Progress Association discusses bus service proposals to Strathmerton and Tocumwal, a trunk line to Melbourne, and shop closing. Members debate club ground sharing, recreation reserve tenure, and coordinated plans among Football, Bowling, Croquet, Cricket, and Swimming Pool groups.
