Danville and surrounding towns share weekend visits. Natives and relatives travel to and from New York City Indianapolis Bloomington Burlington and Wichita. Local events include school openings church services memorial sermons and a Decoration Day program with music and graveside tributes.
In Putnam county a child named Mary Owens 11 is fatally injured when a field roller runs away after a harness part breaks her seat is struck by the roller and dies two hours later. Her parents Mr and Mrs Lee Owens spectators in nearby fields rush to aid as the funeral is set for New Maysville.
After July 1 postmasters must collect all domestic money orders within thirty days of issue to the presenting office. The U S Weather Bureau will freely distribute daily rural route forecasts. Parcel post letters may be tied to packages to ensure simultaneous delivery. The department tests village delivery, bringing mail to Coatesville residents door to door.

Reports said Mellville F McHattie an aged regional pioneer was dying after a long illness. Born in 1826 he is nearly 88 and leaves several children. He owned about 200 acres near Stilesville and a guardian was appointed earlier due to mental decline.

He argued towns lose when people favor outsiders like mail order houses or distant flour sources over local bakery and band. He illustrated that loyalty to church and town in patronage strengthens the community and its institutions.

Neighborhood witnesses describe a perilous moment Monday around 5 30 PM as a work crew on a handcar escaped a double headed freight train bearing down on them. The crew uplifted the car to free it from the track just before collision, leaving onlookers stunned at the narrow escape. Windy Wilson quips he will be gray as a rat after such close shaves.
Relatives staged a birthday surprise for Mrs Emma Mann on Sunday May 24 at her home. Attendees included Toliver Pleraon and family of Reelsville, Moses Burgens and family, Mary Luna Thomas of Anno Mosea, and Mrs Sturman with baby of Crawford, Daisy Gaaper and children of Greencastle, and Fannie with children.
