Judge Rules State Wins Bond Case Over Jackson Township

Judge James L. Clark of Wendwicks circuit court ruled for the state in State ex rel Iedge et al. vs Miller et al. and held former Trustee William N. Miller liable for the full $20,000 bond. The suit claimed improper expenditures and lack of proper notices for bids, with an advisory board refusing to sue previously. The decision confirms citizen taxpayers may sue a former trustee when the board declines.

The Wright & Co store held a popular food demonstration last Saturday with National Biscuit Co and another firm presenting samples. Patrons praised the free tastings of soups beans relishes and more while reps claimed strong local sales. Sunday visitors included Mr and Mrs Frank Vermillion of Clinton and the Brown family from Coatesville.

County Horse Show Set For June 23 In Coatesville

Local business leaders and the general horse committee approved a large Coatesville horse show. Entries are rising, band music planned all day, posters to be released this week, and the premium list urges early entries.

Narrow escape at country crossing involving horse and streetcar

Last Thursday a horse and rider met a 2:40 speeder near the country road when a crossing occurred with an interurban at a mile west of town. The horse suffered a minor leg injury and a black eye while the rider avoided a collision. Dr Shartie tended the horse and sought quieting remedies for the nerves.

Toledo and Kansas City split a doubleheader with Toledo dropping the first game and winning the second. Detroit defeated Philadelphia 6 to 1 with Crawford driving in three runs on a bases loaded triple. Cleveland topped Washington 7 to 2 as Falkenburg excelled after the first inning. Purdue shut out Chicago 3 to 0 in a Friday matinee. Chicago shut out Boston 9 to 0 as Hofman homered in the ninth. Zanesville and South Bend split, Lindsay sparkling in the opener and Corbitt fueling the second. Terre Haute edged Ft Wayne in 10 innings. New York beat Chicago 3 to 1 behind Walsh after Warhop limited H. to three hits. Kansas City beat Columbus 7 to 6 in 12 innings with errors deciding the final advantage. St Paul beat Minneapolis in an 11 inning affair as Autrey, McCormick and Wrigley starred. Louisville pitcher Johnny Fisher was sold to Mobile. Brewers rally to win game one over the Browns aided by walks and errors, while Ott Lakin and wife visited Stilesville.
