A cement truck driven by William Jensen of Indianapolis was struck by a westbound passenger train at the Big Four crossing north of Fillmore. Jensen died after being transported to an Indianapolis hospital. the trailer detached, the load scattered, and the engine train was derailed briefly. A black man riding with Jensen survived the incident.

Death of Mrs. W. B. Swain at 70 in Coatesville
Mrs. W. B. Swain aged 70, longtime resident, died after three months bed confinement from cancer. Funeral held Wednesday at 2 pm from the Brumley home, Rev. Frank Brown officiating, burial in Forest Hill. Survived by husband and seven children, including Ada Brumley and others in Greencastle Terre Haute and Indianapolis. The cancer began from a scratch on her forehead near a stove lid lifter. She suffered for years, received care from specialists in Terre Haute, and returned to Coatesville for family support before passing away in Greencastle where she could be attended. Mr. and Mrs. Swain celebrated their golden anniversary last October in Terre Haute.

Veterinarian Hurt After Horse Kick on Brooklyn Farm

Fire destroys two Roachdale homes in morning blaze
A Friday morning fire in Roachdale completely destroyed the residences of Alfred Woodrum and T. McMullen in the town's west side. The blaze started from a defective fire in the McMullen home. both frame houses burned quickly. Estimated loss reaches $5,000 with about half insured.
