In Danville the Hendricks Circuit Court heard the first case where a woman, Margaret Shuler, defended her own action. Judge Rawley presided as special judge. Shuler, a former county court reporter, sought fees Brill refused, and she lost the suit.
The Christian Church will hold services on the second and fourth Sundays, doubling efforts to boost social and spiritual life. A two to three week evangelistic meeting led by J A McKinnon is planned starting mid February. A general officers election will be held at 2:30 next Sunday afternoon, and a men’s class revival is urged for 9:30 Sunday morning.
Visitors at the Indiana governor James Goodrich inauguration report his early aims for economy and efficiency. He signals readiness to cut redundant offices and favors a constitutional convention, urging diligence from the current legislature.
Prominent ministers from Indianapolis and Greencastle will lead nightly services for the first nine nights. Rev. B. F. Kirkpatrick of Greencastle’s College Avenue M. I. The C W B M auxiliary met with Mrs. Mary Vaughn on Friday January 5. Fifteen members answered roll call as Malachi spoke on the Spanish Southwest of the United States. Bible lessons were led by several members including Mrs. Jennie Awbrey and Mrs. Beulah Knight.
The Department of Agriculture has allotted 20000 packages of garden seeds and 8000 packages of flower seeds for free distribution in the district. A Mooresville correspondent recounts Monroe county pioneer stories. Mr. and Mrs. Stokely Vaughn, of Monroe, winter with their son Dr. Vaughn. Vaughn recounts his grandmother Mary Proyince being abducted by Indians at age seven, her seven years wandering, river crossings, and eventual warm welcome near Peru, Indiana.
Fred Todd resigns from his role as mall carrier on the 60 mile motor route citing heavy mails and bad roads. He described issues with an auto breakdown and heavy snow that day, with postmaster and substitutes noting strain on the two-man old system.
Harry Seaton succeeds Sherman Waters as North Salem postmaster. Rev I E Noland leads revival meetings at Russellville M E Church. A Mooresville Friends church revival opens with evangelist Lenah Hobson. A Gosport group forms a national horse-thief detective association with 22 members.
