Frank Snodgrass a 60 year old farmer died after being attacked by hogs while feeding and bedding them at his home near Fillmore. He was stricken with apoplexy and collapsed among the animals. He died at midnight with his wife injured and a son and widow surviving. Funeral held at his home with burial in Fillmore cemetery.
The Greencastle high school team defeated Russellville 28 to 13 at Bowman gym to win the Putnam county basketball title. About two thousand fans witnessed a 9 to 9 halftime tie, with Greencastle pulling away in the final period. Superintendent Frank Wallace presented trophies and the tournament ball to the teams, with both camps praised for sportsmanship.
The Rockville road project east of Danville was awarded to J. D. Reason & Co. of Pendleton for 199,903.75 dollars. Danville resident Robert H. King won the Abner's Creek bridge contract for 14,872 dollars, bringing total costs to 211,775.75 dollars. Alternate bids were A. J. Yanger of Indianapolis at 208,896.67 and Nedjel & Cart right Co. of Crown Point at 220,234.84. The road must be completed by December 25 of this year.
Mrs. Lettie Cline 24 wife of Marion Cline of near Bethel died at home Friday night after a brief flu illness. She leaves a husband and three young children. Daughter of Calvin and May Hurst, funeral Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church with burial in Bethel Cemetery.
Putnam county bee keepers and county horticultural society members plan a joint all day session at Green Castle on April 19. C O Yost state apiary inspector and Frank N Wallace state entomologist will speak. Yost will set the date for a county tour to inspect all bee colonies.
Al Montgomery and Charles Crews were home over Sunday from Indianapolis.
The Fillmore farmers institute holds its annual meeting at the Christian church next Saturday February 14. A fine program of music and speaking is planned and the public is invited to attend.
Emmett Bourne rents the Masten room, formerly E. O. Stewart Feed, fits it as a restaurant, to serve hot lunches short orders and fresh bakery. Coatesville lacked a restaurant but expects steady demand from traveling men and farmers daily.
Phillip Albaugh 87 longtime Greencastle resident and Putnam county farmer died Saturday night at his East Washington street home. Survived by wife and two children Frances Groves Knob Noster Mo and Wallace Albaugh Greencastle. Born in Putnam county in 1833 he attended local country schools. Funeral 10 a m Tuesday at home with burial in Forest Hill cemetery.
The influenza outbreak in Coatesville appears to have peaked and is easing. Half the homes have had illness and many families were affected simultaneously. A physician reported seven new cases to the state health board last Friday with hope for further improvement next week.
Fred Gaston a former resident of Hailey Idaho and ex 150th field artillery continues touring the area visiting his aunt Mrs Frank Ader northwest of town for the past week He served with the regiment returning last May and is now at Camp Taylor awaiting discharge around early June He previously lived in Coates ville until age twelve and is pleased to reconnect with old friends
The Herald announces a farmers institute in Clay township to be held at the Methodist church on Saturday February 21, with sessions in the morning and evening. A strong program is promised and local farmers and residents are urged to attend.
