Rev. Ray Banks pastor of the Missionary Baptist church was granted a vacation from weekly preaching as a Christmas surprise. He was notified of the break after arriving in town Saturday night for the weekend.
M E Church notes Sunday school at 9 30 a m prayer meeting at 7 p m probationers to be received into full connection next Sunday evening with a special sermon. Official board meets Friday at 7 p m at First National Bank for important business. All board members urged to attend. J W Cordrey Pastor.

Cecil Miller with family had Christmas dinner with Mr and Mrs Flem Wells near Hadley. Otto Shepherd and wife of Rossville and Clarence Shepherd of Indian topics visited J E Shepherd’s family. Claude Iddings and family were Sunday guests. Wishing all a happy new year.

Miss Bernice Grooms, 22, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grooms of Danville, died at her parents home after an illness beginning last May with tuberculosis. She is survived by her parents and three sisters. The funeral, conducted by Mrs. Mary Harrold, was held Sunday at Ragan cemetery in New Winchester.
The Mecca theater hosted a community event for local school age children. Organizers provided performances and activities aimed at entertaining young attendees in a neighborhood gathering.
