The Crawfordsville bound troop of sixteen scouts with Scoutmaster Chauncy G. Sutherlin hiked Saturday leaving Lakin's garage at 8:00 AM. They passed Reno, Groveland, Roachdale, Ladoga and Whitesville before camping near the dam. The trip featured boating, swimming, a sleepwalking incident, early Sunday breakfasts, and a final swim at Scott's Grove before returning home.

Woman injured when car struck by box car near Greencastle
Mrs. Ernett Davis of eight miles east of Danville sustained two broken toes and a mashed left foot after the Dodge she rode in was hit by a loose box car at the old Big Four crossing northeast of Greencastle. East bound Vandalia No. 144 wrecked near Bluff City Illinois after hitting a undermined culvert following a afternoon cloudburst. Twenty one people injured several seriously. Passengers were taken to East St. Louis or Terre Haute while some planned to finish the trip. The culvert extended about two blocks with much roadbed washed away. Engine and mail coaches derailed and several cars toppled into a slough bridged by the culvert.

The State conservation department cautions a chinch bug rise next spring if winter is mild. Adults overwinter in sheltered spots and attract large broods. farmers should clear fences ditches and weed accumulations and remove infected fodder shocks to reduce wintering sites.
