Last Monday’s council approved removing scales at Main and Blackman to Water street for McClellan and Suthpen coal yard. A fire safety committee was formed. Police instructed livery stable men to keep rigs off streets. Band boys granted street use for a Fourth of July celebration. Meeting adjourned.
Last Monday celebrated the 28th birthday of Mrs Robt Madison Jr at her Numa home. Visitors from here include Wm Shew and family Simon Scratcher and wife Milt Headlee and family and his best girl. They report a fine time and a day well spent.
On Wednesday night June 12 George L. Brown, aged 40, was surprised by about twenty five friends who crowded his home to give him a festive birthday reception. He received several nice presents and remarked he would not mind another birthday of tenor.
Cale Stone Edna Stone and F T Cale were married Sunday at the Southard home in Shelbyville Indiana. Rev Charles Leeson officiated. The groom, an engineer with the C E I railroad, recently moved from Ohio. They will reside in Clinton in a home under construction.
The Clinton Water Works board created a new department and appointed Louis N. iair as inspector to oversee the mechanical and paraphernalia duties. Ed Ruby fills the vacancy left by Blair at the works.
At the residence of David Mc Beth on Tuesday evening about twenty ladies attended hosted by the lady of the house. The event featured pleasant conversation and gooseberry stemming followed by delicious refreshments.
The Indictment Against Councilman Black of Clinton was quashed by Judge G. Rheuby who ruled the charge failed since he could not contract with himself. The case stemmed from Black cleaning storm debris and charging $28 to the city, which was allowed. The second indictment regarding 1906 street work was also quashed.
Hillsdale, Rey, and Mrs W Bradley Morgan hosted Miss Manando Corey for a three day gathering June 12 to 14. Music and games filled the event with special entertainment Thursday a mock wedding and a naphtha launch on the Wabash in the evening. Guests included Manando Corey Haerstown Vida Clover Edith Clover Bertha Dunkley Charlotte Dowdy Bessie Van Duyn Ethel Wright Ethel Hale Florence Hale Ora Clover Nellie Jackson.
James Ward Elijah James and Miss Bertha Ward of Oden Ind were married Wednesday evening at the bride’s home. James is the son of Z D James formerly of this place and the bride is described as a charming and accomplished young lady. The Plain Dealer extends congratulations.
Last Friday a brood weighing 450 pounds belonged to Cal Wright of this township. The litter consisted of eighteen pigs, with sixteen given as gifts. This remarkable brood is cited as evidence that prosperity is still thriving in the area.
John Briggs the Clinton barber died last Sunday evening in Danville Illinois after being treated there for dropsy. He was buried at Cayuga on Tuesday morning.
The Clinton Trolleys will visit Shelburn next Sunday for a four game set with the Shelburn Trolleys. Arrangements are underway to charter a train to accommodate traveling fans.
