City council accepted Harris and Dorsey bid of 817 044 65 for paving Main Street from Walnut to Sycamore. Other bids ranged up to 17 700 20 by Foulkes and Frobes and 17 317 55 by H C Finley. Construction to start within about twenty days.

Last Sunday afternoon several lodges including the Odd Fellows Rebekahs Red Men K of P and Woodmen held decoration services over the graves of departed brothers and sisters. A large attendance gathered as the Dowdy band led with sweet music. J H Bogart was up to Newport Saturday.

Obituary of John Gordon Campbell
John Gordon Campbell born December 25 1824 in Ireland died June 9 aged 82 5 15 in Clinton Indiana. He came to the United States 1845 settled in Clinton 1852 married Matildah Ellison served as postmaster under Lincoln and later resumed as a druggist. He was a devout Presbyterian Sabbath school teacher and community church leader survived by eight children with his wife. Funeral held June 11 from his residence conducted by Rev C E Fowler and Rev C H L Leeson with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

The children's day service at the Presbyterian church gave unusual pleasure with well performed parts by the little folks. The songs reflected careful training and were beautiful. The Sabbath school offering raised $5.00.

Thomas R. Huey of Hell township and Parke County died in Bloomingdale on Sunday June 9 1907 an abscess led to blood poisoning. He leaves a wife and son Roy a government employee in Washington and siblings in Ohio Louisiana and Clinton. Funeral was held Wednesday with burial in Bethany cemetery near Marshall Parke County.

Reed narrowly avoids disaster in sewer trench accident
A young man named Reed and his companion rode along Fourth street near Mullberry when his horse plunged into a trench for catch basin connections. Several men freed the horse with little damage aside from broken harness. The incident blamed on no one in particular.
