Lloyd Wairaven rode home last Sunday with Cloanteam co. when a rear fender collision caused him to fall from the vehicle. He sustained a fractured pelvis and broken rib and was rushed to Terre Haute hospital in critical condition. The incident may warn other youths about dangerous free rides.
Police Officer Winty Foncannon arrested United States Army deserter Win. R. Hoffman. Hoffman enlisted at Terre Haute on February 14 and deserted from Ft. Sheridan on May 12. Foncannon handed him to federal authorities Tuesday and earned praise for the clever capture.
The Christian Endeavor Society of the church invites all to an ice cream social on the school grounds Saturday evening July 13. A cordial invitation is extended to join for a pleasant evening.
Joseph Graham of Parke county drowned Sunday forenoon in the Wabash River just north of Clinton while swimming with companions. He became tangled in a trot line, and despite efforts his body was not recovered until after. funeral held Tuesday.
Roy Staats Bert F Raynes and Ross A Adams filed articles of incorporation to run a hardware jewelry and furniture store in Clinton with capital stock of 15000. The firm will be Staats Raynes Adams Co and aims to offer a first class up to date store in the city.
Rev. C. E. Fowler reports a fifteen day visit to Lake Winona with everything fine. He praises the literary program and notes the fishing was splendid.
Buckeye No 2 mine in Clinton district hoisted 1 848 tons of coal Tuesday surpassing prior records. Owned by Oak Hill Coal and Mining Company with Frank Christy as mine boss, he has broken multiple marks at Klondike and Lattas Creek mines. John Shirikie serves as superintendent and other officials listed.
Contracts let by the county commission award National Concrete Company the Clinton township C. Hedges bridge for 29354 and the Patrick Ford bridge in Eugene township for 13100. George W. Sykes secured the J. W. Clearwater gravel road contract for 4100 and Chas Sykes the Joe W. Moore road for 4800. Both reside in Vermillion township.
Isaac Watson died in Walla Walla Washington on January 3 1907 aged 66 years. An old resident who left here for the west fifty years ago he never married and grew wealthy. Three or four brothers and sisters survive with Mrs Alex Foncannon of this place a sister. Wintry Foncannon visited him in Washington about two years ago as the sole relative to pay him a visit.
A unitiered blast at Joe Podrinski's Anderson Street home occurred Tuesday evening as he overfilled a cook stove with coal oil. Neighbors extinguished the fire before the department arrived. Podrinski sustained burns to hands and face, with only minor structural damage reported.
Messrs James A. Wilson Ross A. Adams Seward Lewis and Howard Harger with their wives left Friday night for an extended trip to the east. They will visit Canada Niagara Falls New York and the Jamestown Exposition before returning home.
F. W. Walker appointed manager of Central Park after Harry Smith left the role. Park attractions and amusements will stay at standard. Walker described as a hustler and plans to run the park in good order. Large attendance noted on the 4th and Sunday following.
A protest meeting under Clinton district miners locals will be in City Park Clinton next Sunday July 14 at 2 pm. Speakers include T. T. Lewis National Vice President United Mine Workers of America and W. D. Van Horn president District No. 11. Majestic Band will provide music. Everybody is invited to hear labor issues discussed impartially.

The wife of Otis E. Gulley of Danville Hendricks county died of peritonitis on Tuesday morning of last week. They married January 2 1895 at Martinsville Morgan county. Four children were born to the couple two of whom are dead. Gulley is well known in the district having twice run for the Republican nomination for Congress in Hoosier State.
