Clifton Cubs Top Midway in Scrimmage on Friday Night

Clifton High defeated Midway in a springlike scrimmage with two Clifton scores on passes from Larry Grimland and a strong show of depth. Grimland and Rummel shared quarterback duties as Clifton’s starters outgained Midway, while both B squads moved the ball but failed to score. Coaches note many promising players, with next test set for Friday against Reicher High Cougars in Waco as Clifton seeks another District 13-A title.

Clifton Civic Improvement Society members will meet September 7 at 3:00 PM in City Hall dining room for a fall style show by Smiths of Clifton. Mrs Conrad Leaves Clifton for St Louis to Join Cardinals

Mrs. Bobby Joe Conrad and children Janet and Bob travel from Clifton to St Louis Missouri to join her husband and father who is a star flanker back on the St Louis Cardinals football team. He has been out with a shoulder separation and plans to resume play in about two weeks.

Fishermen Visit Rockport and Taylor Weekend

Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Flint traveled to Rockport last Monday to meet Mr. Flint’s brother in law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Pedigo of Kerrville. They fished until Friday, then moved on to Taylor to stay overnight with their son James Lee Flint and grandsons Glen and Ross. The Flints returned to Clifton last Saturday afternoon.

Herman T Hulme Dies in Baytown at 67

Bosque County kin report the death of Herman T. Hulme 67 of Baytown at a Houston hospital around noon on Sunday August 28 after a brief illness. He retired from Humble’s Compound Dept after 34 years and had served as Democratic Precinct 100 chair and delegate to the 1960 National Democratic Convention. He leaves wife Verna Mallory two children Joe Bob Hulme and Mrs Valera Cook two brothers two sisters and grandchildren. Funeral was August 30 at Earthman’s Baytown with burial at San Jacinto Memorial Park.

Dallas Couple Plans California Visit This Week

Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Seljos will fly from Love Field Dallas to San Diego California for a week to visit their son and daughter-in-law Lieutenant Commander and Mrs. Lloyd T. Seljos. Commander Seljos is executive officer of a United States Navy destroyer and his wife serves with the Navy Nurses Corps.

Goodyear to Open Clifton Service Store in Bosque County

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co plans a Clifton store at West 3rd Street and North Avenue E. construction by C. Q. Schow’s Bosque County firm, with Bernice Schow leasing the site for ten years. Expected finish around December 1, opening when approved. building features haydite tiles, brick veneer, plate glass fronts, large service area, and year round air conditioning.

Lake Whitney Flotilla Plans Labor Day Cruise

Lake Whitney's first Flotilla organized by Central Texas Command of the Texas Navy will host a 15-boat flotilla. Commander James A. Bond says the cruise starts at 10:00 a.m. on Labor Day, from the mouth of Little Rocky up the lake’s west side, back on the east, then a stop at the Big B Barge for refreshments.

Barracks and Auxiliary to Meet September 6 at City Hall

Clifton Barracks and Auxiliary 1888 Veterans of World War I will convene at 7:00 PM on Tuesday September 6 in the City Hall dining room. A covered dish supper precedes the business session. Hosts are Mr and Mrs J M Jorgenson and Mrs Alex Anderson.

Social Security Help Visit Slated For Clifton

Field representative Bob McLean from the Waco Social Security District Office says a new provision allows benefits with fewer than six work quarters. Eligible individuals include men 65 and women 62 in 1954 who reach 72 with only three quarters. He will meet at Clifton City Hall dining room on Tuesday September 6 from 10:00 am to noon to answer questions.

Matsons Visit San Angelo Family Summer Trip

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Matson spent last week in San Angelo with their son and daughter in law Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Matson and their children Christy and Mark. The Lloyd Matsons hosted them and brought them home last Sunday after a stay that included their visit on August 21.

Downpour and High Winds Hit Clifton Area

Rainfall in Clifton reached 3.90 inches by Tuesday morning with a two hour Monday night downpour. Clifton recorded 7.32 inches for August, nearly double the 1965 total, as trees fell and transformers blew fuses. Local utility employees repaired damage, with trunklines and radio units temporarily out of service. Multiple gauges across nearby communities reported 4 inch plus rainfall Monday night, contributing to above normal August totals.

VFW Post Holds Labor Day Barbecue in Clifton

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8553 in Clifton hosts a free barbecue starting 7:00 p.m. on Labor Day September 5 to kick off the 1967 membership drive.
