Local Man Shot, Clifton Resident Wounded in Home Attack

A 73-year-old Clifton man was shot around 3:10 pm Tuesday at his home. Levi Brooks underwent surgery at Providence Hospital in Waco and was listed in serious condition as of late Wednesday. A local Negro woman is implicated in the shooting and the incident is under police inquiry.

Boy Scout Fund Campaign Opens In Clifton

The Clifton Boy Scout annual fundraising drive begins Thursday Oct. 24 with Jim Jones as campaign chairman. He names two majors, James Tarpley and Bill Painter, to lead captain teams for camp maintenance and local troop awards.

Ink Dropper’s close call with a deer on a Crocker trip

While driving through East Texas to Crocker the Ink Dropper planned a diary entry using a tape recorder. A sudden deer dash forced a braking stop and interrupted the thought, leaving the moment captured only by the unturned device and a shaken narrator.

Industrial Foundation Member Drive Started

The Clifton Industrial Foundation began with strong local support at a Tuesday night meeting attended by about 70 business leaders. A panel answered questions for 50 Lions Club members and more questions at the business community meeting. While totals were incomplete, several thousand dollars were raised toward a 50 000 and 3000 member goal. Next week the Record will publish member names in a weekly list, with donations kept confidential if requested. Members are urged to send checks to Clifton Industrial Foundation Inc to Farmers State Bank Clifton.

Clifton School Musicians Elect Officers and Band Council

The Clifton School band elected officers President Ronnie Barnett Vice President James Petrich Secretary Treasurer Debra Brown Reporter Janet Holder and Librarian Karen Tweedle. Band Council representatives include 7th Kenneth Barnett 8th Lonnie Cosper 8th Tim Hoel 9th Lath 11th Mike Harvey 12th Brenda McDougal. The group aims to build and maintain band spirit.

Golf Course Lease Signed at Meridian State Park

The Lakeview Recreation Association announced a lease with the Parks and Wildlife Department to develop a golf course and clubhouse at Meridian State Park. Construction could begin within weeks, with a $100 family membership available for a limited time, and Gene Johnson of Johnson Associates hired as architect. Interested individuals may contact C. K. Burglars Hit Cranfills Gap Bank for Silver Coins

Thieves used professional tools and an acetylene torch to breach the vault at First Security State Bank of Cranfills Gap late Monday or early Tuesday. They escaped with an undisclosed amount of silver coins while not gaining access to paper money. FBI agents, Texas Ranger and Bosque County Sheriff A. O. Carr investigated, finding spilled quarters and leaving tool marks as clues. The bank opened normally Tuesday. authorities labeled the break-in professional and ongoing.

One Car Collision Wounds Clifton Student

Betty Albrecht of Clifton received cuts and bruises in a one car wreck that began in McLennan County and ended in Bosque County. The 1962 Mercury hit highway signs before overturning near Valley Mills. Patrolman Danny Childs investigated. the car was destroyed.
