Angleton Texas October M J Durfee a negro convicted of murdering Mrs J M Seite of Post City in 1919 was taken from jail and hanged to a tree outside Angleton. He confessed his guilt before a mob and was secured before the lynching. Governor Colquitt had granted a respite prior to possible commutation. Durfee had been held in jail for months amid fears of mob violence.
