Memorial rites held Sunday for Corporal Dennis Schulze
Memorial services were held Sunday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Norse for Corporal Dennis H. Schulze reported killed in action on September 18. Schulze, born near Clifton December 0, 1017, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Schulze. He attended Cranville Gap High School, farming with his parents before joining the armed service January 22, 1941. He trained in Texas, Florida and Massachusetts before going overseas with the ith Division. The service featured hymns, a vocal solo, and a sermon by Rev. Perry Sampson. Gifts supported the National Lutheran Council, Clifton College Building Fund, and a local congregation improvement project.

Lt Samuel M Carr Decorated for Valor in World War II
Lt Samuel M Carr, son of Mr and Mrs Stanner of Clifton, veteran of 49 Flying Fortress missions, awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Purple Heart. He flew over the Mediterranean, survived, and was picked up by a British destroyer. He later served at Salt Lake City Army Air Base, joined the Army in July 1941, and returned to the United States in 1944. His brother is Min Dotyn Pitts, who rodeoed at Baylor.
