Bosque County Attorney Charles H Bolton discusses October due dates and the need to pursue delinquent taxes. He notes 1965 delinquency rate near 4 percent, explains penalties, foreclosure actions, and sheriff sale processes to recover owed taxes. He urges delaying cases only for meritorious reasons to avoid added costs.
The Clifton Record announces a free photo session for local children by Winston B. Lucas on Saturday October 22 from 10:00 A M to 3:00 P M in the City Hall dining room. Appointments available by calling Mrs L B Polk at 675 8913.
New officers of the Lake Whitney Association were elected and installed at the September general meeting. Ray Gay of Whitney was named president, with vice presidents Bob Sechrist of Laguna Park and J. W. Mahon of Whitney. Virginia Latham of Whitney was secretary and Bill Woodside of Whitney treasurer.
Clifton residents and rural mail customers receive no postage needed cards to list frequently used addresses with missing Zip Codes. Postmaster Robert Baldridge Jr says to mail back completed cards for proper codes, aiding timely deliveries during the holiday rush. President Johnson proclaims Zip Code Week and officials cite polling data and prior tests to expand ZIP code use nationwide.
The Clifton Lions Club will host a household items sale from the Texas Blind Shops Caravan at City Hall from 9:00 A M to 3:00 P M. At 8:00 P M the Bettis Auditorium will feature Valerie Goodall and William Mooney in Since Adam and Eve. Proceeds fund Clifton community projects and half of the show revenue goes to the Lions. Tickets go on sale later this week with adults 2.00 and children 1.00.
The Bosque County Farm Bureau sets its annual convention for Tuesday night October 18 in the Zion United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall at Womack with host director Joseph Conrad. A 7 PM covered dish supper precedes the meeting where member resolutions on local state and national issues will be voted.
Clifton High announces a two day Homecoming on Friday October 21 with a football game against Clifton Valley Mills at Cub Stadium at 7 30 PM and a Saturday October 22 Homecoming Dance at the National Guard Armory from 8 to 11 PM The usual turkey dinner is canceled due to high food costs Mums and corsages will be sold by Junior Class girls with delivery before each event Queen nominees named from each class Kathy Collins Anita Wallace Linda Smith Kim Outlaw top four to be presented at halftime and escort dances during the Homecoming events
Harry Van Slack of Waco representing the American Heart Association spoke to Clifton Lions Club members at noon Tuesday after a civic supper. He highlighted heart disease costs and prevention steps, urged regular checkups, and noted six lifestyle changes to reduce heart attack risk.
Paul of Paul and Paula to entertain high school students after the Clifton Meridian football game in Meridian. Ray Hildebrand will present a music program at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Hildebrand, a Paul and Paula member, has toured the U S England Canada and Japan.
Mrs Herman H. Landou Jr departed Clifton by train on October 1 to join her husband stationed at Chanute Air Force Base near Rantoul Illinois. Mrs W W Lard accompanied her granddaughter to Chicago and returned home Monday.
Clifton High School’s Cubs travel to Meridian Friday for the District 13-A football opener. Kickoff is 7:30 P M with Meridian’s strong passing and running attack set to test Clifton. Coaches praised Meridian players Poe and Smith and noted Hillsboro loss and roster bruises but expect key linemen to play.
Relatives recall P G Bob Knudson 63 of Waco who died October 11 after heart attacks. Funeral 2:00 pm Thursday October 13 at First Lutheran Church Waco with interment in a local cemetery. body to lie in state 1 00 to 2 00 pm at the church. A longer obituary will follow next week.
Clifton Public Schools schedule a Harvest Carnival sponsored by the PTA. Food from 6 to 8 pm in the cafe, booths in elementary rooms, and an 8 pm Steamboat's A-Comin auditorium program in Bettis Auditorium. Standouts include various grade booths and a Steamboat play with a long list of cast members and staff.
The State Highway Commission awarded a 6 764 mile contract on FM 2602 and FM 2960 in Bosque and Hill Counties to J P Atkinson Inc of Clifton for 185 447 03 dollars. Brooks Evans says grading base and surfacing will take 120 working days under T H Ralph who oversees construction. The project links FM 2602 from 5.1 miles southwest of State Highway 6 to FM 2171 north of Mosheim and from State Highway 22 near Whitney through Prairie Valley on these FM roads.
Mr and Mrs Earl Corpier departed Clifton on Wednesday morning for Nucla near Montrose Colorado to hunt mule deer. They expect to be away about ten days.
Clifton Chapter FFA members posted strong results at the Heart of Texas Fair Barrow Show in Waco. C. L. Conrad won Champion and Reserve Champion Berkshire barrows, plus top heavyweights. other placings included Duroc and Hampshire entries by Clifton youths. Judge was Donald Osburn of Texas A&M University. 117 barrows entered.
