In a wartime to peace voice, Gap School echoes gratitude for service members and calls for civilian help to rejoin workforce. The issue covers football plans, Junior and Freshman activities, student elections, and grade news from sixth to eighth grade, including teacher changes and new classroom items.
The column lists students by name across grades and classes, noting first grade and new enrolments, visitors, and a perfect spelling score streak. It highlights homemaking club officers, home projects, woolwork plans, and upcoming competitions. A sports section reports a large interest in basketball with pep squad plans and yell leaders. It concludes with an editorial on postwar employment and public work policy debates.
A House vote passed a bill exempting 1440 dollars per year of all retirement income from Civil Service. The debate centered on fairness between retirees and other workers paying taxes on equivalent earnings. W B Poage of Texas criticizes the measure as politically smart but inequitable, warning it could strain taxpayers and future programs. A separate listing notes a 600 x 16 passenger tire for sale.
