The meeting sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church boards discussed education for mentally retarded children. Speakers from the church and community described purpose, plans, and a Sunday class starting October 3 at 9 45 am to teach Bible basics and God’s love to children with special needs.
A list details CHS graduates and their ongoing college and university enrollments. Names include Betler University Ralph Collins Betty Albreetti Kaye Conrad Cynthia Harth Newey Swenson Susan Willeher and many others across institutions such as the University of Texas in Austin University of Mississippi and Texas A&M University.
Clifton attendees at the District 14 VFW Convention in Whitney included Alvin Ameedeon Sam Amundson Don Amundson and others. Crawford C Martin gave the main address while Mrs Doyle Hulme elected district auxiliary president. Clifton Post 5833 reported 100 membership. next convention slated for January at a western post.
Mrs James Walsleben and children Timothy Jay Robert and Dorothy Kay moved to Lubbock after spending time with relatives in Clifton and Valley Mills. Mr Walsleben took a position as Field Representative for RCA Service Company based in Lubbock.
Dr and Mrs Ross Finley and their children Linda and Steve spent last weekend in Clifton as guests of Mr and Mrs W L Spieler. Mrs Chester Jermstad of Clifton accompanied her brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs Robert Hutton of Hico when they left Love Field Dallas for New York City to visit Glenn Hutton and family for about two weeks. Marcus Jermstad of Clifton drove them to Dallas to board the plane.
Otis Blue, injured in a September 19 automobile collision between Eunice and Opelousas, Louisiana, has returned to Clifton from Eunice hospital after a week of treatment. He expects to stay home two more weeks before resuming work with a construction firm.
Eighteen graduates of Clifton High School class of 1928 and three teachers attended the first reunion at Charlie's Cafe in Clifton. The gathering included spouses and several members who sent reports from locations across Texas and beyond. Deceased classmates listed include Aubrey Palmer Jim Robertson John Jaynes Gray and Grace Rice Gil.
Three non fatal crashes occurred near Clifton over the weekend. The Wegner 1957 Chevrolet wrecked after striking a cow. Bakke and Seljos collision damaged one car. Carpenter 1963 Volkswagen overturned near Savith Bend injuring both occupants.
Sunset Home marks 11 years of service to the aged with a Presse and Thank Service at 3:90 o clock Sunday afternoon October 3 in the chapel. Reverend James B Exsinger of First Lutheran Temple will speak. an offering will aid Sunset Home. Ladies from First Lutheran Waco serve refreshments. open house follows for visitation.
Clifton High Cubs brace for a hard 8 p m kickoff against Hamilton on their home field. Coach Aubrey Roberts notes Hamilton’s strong tailback offense, led by Allan Jones and Larry Newton, with stout linemen Garland Stephens Bill Brunk and Gary Williams. Injuries include three shoulder issues and Ronnie Dockerson likely out.
P. L. Ashcraft entered Scott and White Hospital Temple on Tuesday of last week for X rays and tests. It is understood he underwent exploratory surgery Monday morning this week.
Mr and Mrs Ross Hancock spent Thursday in Dallas viewing 1966 Pontiacs and Friday in Fort Worth to see 1966 Oldsmobiles. They stayed with Mr and Mrs William R McDowell and later visited her brother Mr and Mrs Jack Marr and their children Nick and Suzanne before returning home Friday night.
Last weekend Mr. and Mrs RE Kruse Sr of Alvin and Mr. and Mrs Bob Krause Jr and daughter Dorene of Port Arthur stayed in the home of Rev and Mrs Albert A Petrich at Our Savior's Lutheran Church parsonage in Norse. Bob Kruse Jr works as an engineer at KPAC in Port Arthur and his wife is Mrs Petrich's sister.
Clifton resident Helen C. Aars president of Farmers State Bank will address the National Bankers Convention in Chicago October 4 5 and 6 on Public Relations and Marketing. He is one of three U S speakers along with Lewis A Lapham and Larry Ronson. The Aarses plan a Dallas Love Field departure for Chicago and will return October 9 or 10.
Immanuel Church Clifton hosts the Central Texas Zone Fall Rally of the Lutheran Woman's Missionary Registration from 2 30 to 3 00 with ten churches attending. Rally theme No Time to Wait. Rev W F Rolf leads the devotions and Mrs Johnnie Gettemeyer of Waco presides. Rev Gerald Otte of St Paul Fort Worth is guest speaker. New officers will be elected. Rev Vernon Bahr to install. Fellowship supper and a Holy Land program follow by Mrs W B Oswald. Otte trained at St John’s College Winfield and Concordia Seminary St Louis 1954 vicared in Houston. He organized St Andrew Lutheran Choir and now chairs Missions for the Texas District LCMS.
Clifton High Cubs overwhelmed Valley Mills 28 to 0 at Cubs Stadium on homecoming night. Key plays featured Jim Ed Bird’s punt block, James Haywood’s early TD, and solid line blocking plus a Grimland pass to Forson for the two point conversion. The defense stifled Valley Mills and set up repeated Cub advances into Eagle territory.
Members of the 1965-66 Clifton High School Band announced nominations for Band Sweetheart. Finalists are Renee Tweedie Kathie Crawford and Kathy Collins with the winner kept secret until half time Friday.
