Milton Charley Helms of Bosque County died in the Great War on Sept 9, 1844. Memorial services were held at the Blan's Evangelical Reformed Church in Womack with Rev. Floyd W. Trash officiating. He was a farmer, 4-H member, and noted swine producer who earned county and state honors and served in Camp Wolters before his death. He is survived by his parents, a sister and a brother, and his fiancée Frances Kroeger.
J L Brown a prominent Bosque County farmer and tax assessor died Sunday morning at Meridian hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Meridian Methodist Church with interment in the local cemetery. He was a member of one of the county’s oldest families and survived by three daughters and several sons and grandchildren.
The American Legion sponsors Gifts to the Wounded program to cheer soldiers in hospital. Local merchants Sormrude's Grocery Western Auto Store Alex Anderson Grocery will collect and deliver gift packs. Authorities say Jamon was attacked during a botched robbery as he walked from a residence at 2906 Cian. The murder led to arrests as officers recover the weapon and scene details.
Le Milton mission pilot Bradstreet and Mrs Bradstreet celebrate his birthday on November 22 as his Flying Fortress crew completes a mission over Europe. Upon ending leave, he will report to a rest camp in Santa Ana, California.
M Sgt Lonnie M Kelly of Star Route, Cliffton Texas earned the Soldier's Medal for heroism at a perilous Allied airfield in Italy. In the face of a burning B 24 Liberator loaded with heavy bombs, Kelly and crew chiefs fought the blaze and attempted to extinguish the fire, enduring danger as they worked to save the aircraft and crew.
The Clifton Public School gym hosted a Harvest Carnival last Friday despite cold weather. About 750 people attended with 270 pupils performing in acts including That Wedding of Cinderella and Prince Charming, Mother Goose, Children of all Nations, and a Spanish Bull Fight. Boothes such as bingo, fishing pond, and cake stand drew strong crowd support and donations funded by the event.
