Meridian Court and Local News items list residents and visitors from Meridan and surrounding towns. Names include Mrs. McKinney Mrs. Carroll and others noting visits, travels, and attendance at events such as shows and a deer hunt weekend.
George Stevenson died Saturday in Clifton after a long residence near Atlanta born 1859. He moved to Clifton over fifty years ago and spent the last twenty there. A cousin, Mr. Parr of Valley Mille, survives. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Gerald Geeemont. He died in an accidental hunting incident while unloading a high diet rifle after returning from a hunt the day before. Local memorials note his long service in the Clifton area.
Bosque County announces a calf contest for youths ages 10 to 18. Entries must be postmarked by December 15 1940 to be eligible. Rules and details available from Vocational Agriculture teachers and county agent. materials used in marketing study groups.
Farmers who produced cotton in 1940 may vote in the Bosque County referendum on December 7 to decide if marketing quotas will be in effect for the 1941 cotton season. The county AAA committee, led by B C Rogstad, will manage polling places and secret ballots, with votes counted to determine quota applicability.
About 150 citizens from Bosque County gathered at Clifton City Hall Dining Room Friday evening to honor two newly elected state lawmakers Judge Karl L Lovelady and Representative Cletti M Jones. The event featured remarks by local officials, musical performances, and praise for the district wide victories.
A list of relatives and friends attended the funeral for S. J. Tennison including Mr and Mrs Fran Tennison Crawford TerA Mr and Mrs Joe Ryan Meridia J D Ryan Whe and Mrs Wm Kidppa Mariile Palle and others in attendance.
Branham business leader Jack C Green of Green Grain Company visited the Texas Milling Company last Friday. Guests included Rolfe Walton and Trotter as they toured the plant and dined at Depton's Cafe, with Walton praising the client relations and business volume. Green entertained with stories and remarks on local commerce before joining a hunt at a local ranch.
Dee Winfield led four FFA members in a Public Speaking Contest at Clifton centers. Second place went to Jims Cooper and Jemen Maison. Twenty participants competed in the event organized by the local FFA chapter and youth leadership program.
The Turkey Show and School will be held in Meridian on Friday November 29 under county agent E R Lawrence. Exhibits include dressed Broad Breasted Baby Beef turkeys and various range and confinement raised birds. Judging by George McCarthy will award about 100 dollars in premiums plus ribbons. turkeys should be brought by noon November 27 with no feed.

An election is scheduled for December 14 for the Jongue Soil Conservation District proposal. W. Marshall of Temple. Temple administrator, will oversee polls with Word Main of Iredell as polling superintendent. The district spans Boague Somervall and Rath counties and covers about 1,026,000 acres with eligible landholding voters who are otherwise qualified to vote.
