Radio news says repairs from last week’s awful Dublin hail storm will cost about 75000 dollars for roofs and windows. A local ad pitches protection at 3 dollars per thousand dollars of coverage for a year, noting a single damaged window or roof hole can justify buying insurance.
W D Rater reports at Clifton the baccalaureate sermon by Tey Downing of Belton on duty. Fifty six seniors attended at city hall. Millie Bronsted awarded grammar diplomas to twenty nine. John Butler delivered the valedictory and Hane Fern Bronsted the salutatory. Rev EB NoScarlett gave the principal address. A high school contest last week chose five new winners and voting balanced among students faculty and committee.
Austin May 24 Echoes faded from a 10 day session as the Forty second legislature adjourned. Governor Sterling still faced unvoted bills and proposed a possible special session to trim a large appropriation burden. Key actions included a plan to exempt 8000 of homestead value from state property tax and a series of tax measures pending final decisions.
In New Cate Denton the Lions Club held a gathering to elect teen officers. Elected were President Reese, vice presidents Low and Grantham, third vice president Standefer, treasurer Tucker, secretary Bronstad, (tamer?) Wine, and Sitar.
Meridian May 25 eighteen seniors will graduate from Meridian high school Friday evening May 9 at the annual commencement exercises. District Judge C B McPherson of Cle bu rne to deliver the commencement address Miss Marzee Wright will deliver the valedictory and Miss Anna Golien the salutatory. Diplomas will be presented by H J Cureton president of the board of trustees for Meridian independent school district. The class includes Theresa Benson Florence Micars Lois Hyde Emily Davis Honise Lewin Margaret Barker Lila Smith Iva Wilmuth Anon Golden Denzel Torry Maree Wright Gadys Lee Lauralee Johnson and others. The annual commencement service will be held Sunday morning May 91 at the high school auditorium with Dr C R Wright of Waxahachie delivering the sermon. The program begins 11 a m with processional Faye Young song Our Best Invocation Rev R W Nation song Smile Scripture reading Rev P E Kirchner sermon Dr R Wright doxology and benediction.
The service for Mrs Lula Belle Harris Long, born November 15 1874, who died May 24 1991 at the Clifton area farm, was held Monday afternoon at the family home with Elder Lee Dalton presiding. Interment followed in the Mitts cemetery as a large crowd attended. she leaves six surviving siblings and many relatives.
Clifton friends hail Grace Gilliam and Alice Goble as Baylor graduates from Clifton with four years at Baylor University. Gilliam earned honors in French and education and served as student assistant in English. Goble, majoring in education with a speech minor, won the Pi Kappa Delta women’s oratorical contest and held university choir and basketball roles.

The Texas Concordia League of Lutheran Young People's societies plans a camp July 29 26 at the Bosque falls encampment grounds near highway 67. J Floyd Smith of Waco M C A aids with facilities including eight lodges and headquarters, tents, water supply, canteen services, and a full program led by trained staff and ministers. Recreation, fishing, swimming, and spiritual activities accompany the event with supervision by experienced leaders and a noted pastor present.
