The week at Union Hill closed with juniors presenting The Gate to Happiness. Seniors held a large 1931 commencement with baccalaureate by Rev. Stanton and address by County Attorney Penn J. Jackson. The largest class yet graduated. Faculty to return next year. teachers headed home to study.
Six visitors attended the Clifton Lions Club luncheon with Julian Standefer presenting Miss Ruby Show and Miss Alice Odegaard. The event praised the entertainers and urged a return engagement. Lions discussed new committees and progress on civic activities. Lion Ed Handley announced talks with Mr. Hendrick A. Nelson about an aviation landing field for Clifton, using Nelson’s pasture by the golf links. The field would overlook Clifton and suit the city. Visitors included Rev George F. Kornegay, Dr J E Crawford, Dr J N Renfro, W T Tunstall, Lenoir Kornegay, and Frazier Gaston. Attendees urged everyone to attend next week’s event and promote Clifton to visiting Lions.

T E White age about eighty one pioneer resident of the Coyote area died early Saturday morning May 30 after weeks of declining health. Surrounded by his wife and children he had raised four sons and two daughters on the old homestead farm near Clifton. He was a devout Christian and formerly active in the Masonic Lodge at Valley Mills. Funeral at Fairview church with burial in Fairview Cemetery, under direction of Valley Mills Masonic Lodge. The Record extends sympathy to the family.
The Frazier Office denies leaving Clifton and explains the family will relocate temporarily to a farm shack for vacation while remaining ready for business. It plans to return after vacation for Clifton College opening and credits Clifton’s supportive business community alongside warnings about hostile factions. Ste Carl Henkelman’s old home paper dates moved up a year.
Mrs May Gore wife of Mr George Gore of Cranfills Gap died May 21 1931 after brief illness in Hamilton Sanitarium. She served her church and community with quiet kindness and described as a precious friend who gave flowers in others paths. Her memory is honored with heartfelt verses urging faith and hope.
Clifton Mercantile Co announces Mr. Ed Handley will continue in charge of the Grain Department for the coming season. He promises to assist farmers selling wheat and oats, while the store notes it cannot control prices but will pay the best possible price aligned with market rates.

Max Landgraf born September 21 1897 in Bosque County died May 27 1931 aged 33 in Waco Providence Hospital after stomach ulcers and lung complications. Survived by wife Hedwig Thiele and three daughters Louise Verna Edna, five brothers and eight sisters, numerous relatives and friends. A lifelong member of St. John’s Church near Coyote he was described as loving, faithful, and a good Christian.
Master June Standefer is spending a few days in Waco visiting relatives, enjoying time with family and local sites.
