Whitney Dam closing gates promises new lake formation
Last week L P Reed and Martin and Grace contractors received permit to block the Brazos River for Whitney Dam work. Bulldozers began pushing dirt to form a temporary earthen dam as the Whitney Lake area rose 22 feet, with sluices opening Sunday. The Brazos is expected to rise no higher unless a flood occurs. completion is slated in about six months though railroad relocations cemeteries and other tasks may extend the timetable.
