During the CISD Board of Trustees session, Mayor Fred Volcansek urged opening Clifton schools for a Catholic Diocese group of about 100 from Dallas to stay July 16 to 23 and work on city homes. Trustees debated facility access, housing in classrooms, and gym use while considering a policy change per the GED Local guide.
Carol Spicer reports for The Curzon Record on events at the upcoming fair and rodeo set for next week. Officials promise attractions, livestock shows, and a schedule of contests across the weekend.
The 80th annual Central Texas Youth Fair and Rodeo begins in Clifton on Tuesday May 30 2011 with Cash Bake Sale product judging registration. May 28 features the Records Quiz class contest. other events include Home Economics exhibit registration June 1 horses and livestock judging June 1 9 a.m. rabbits judging at 6 p.m. and a watermelon social at 8 p.m. The exhibitors breakfast runs June 2 6:30 to 8 a.m. at the Clifton Civic Center.
The Clifton Memorial Day program will begin at 10:30 a.m. on May 30 at VFW Post 8553. A catered meal follows the ceremony. Richard Atkinson and more than 20 Boy Scouts with leaders laid hundreds of flags on graves at Clifton Cemetery and Clifton Memorial Cemetery, a yearly community service to honor fallen veterans.
TxDOT began a project to replace a bridge on Bosque County Road 4105 at Spring Creek with a wider concrete structure and upgraded approaches. Work zone signs went up May 24 and construction starts June 1, closing the road to thru traffic. Bear Creek Construction of Waco handles the $363,000 off system project, with completion targeted for late Summer 2011. Motorists should take alternate routes and heed warning signs as crews operate in the work area.

During a May 17 regular Clifton Planning and Zoning Commission session the three members discussed registering and maintaining vacant property restricting commercial district usage and limiting feeding of dogs and cats on public spaces. A revised Chapter 34 was presented with support from Code Officer Paul Phillips and City Administrator Charles McLean and approved to consolidate ordinances into one chapter establishing vacancy registration for properties vacant over 90 days with a city set fee to be charged to owners.
