Clifton City Council approves training burn for CVFD
Clifton City Council approved a training burn at 618 West 3rd Street for the Clifton Volunteer Fire Department after a motion by Rick Wim mer and a second by Richard Spitzer. The consent agenda passed including street closures for Vacation Bible School June 6 through 10 and a city park tractor pull on August 13. The council discussed a liened property at 808 North Avenue 1 and considered foreclosure with the City Attorney. Drainage work near Hackberry Street and Avenue F prompted talk of FEMA clearance to rechannel flood plain for potential low income housing.

Former County Judge Charles K Ward Jr dies at home
Bosque County mourns the death of former County Judge Charles K. Ward Jr known as Chuck who died at his Meridian home on May 14 2011. Services were held May 17 at Meridian First United Methodist Church with Rev. Cynthia Lee officiating. Burial followed at Meridian Cemetery. He and his wife JoAnn Cole Ward married in 1956 in Lovington NM and lived in Pampa Midland Graham and other Texas towns during his oil industry career.

Clifton Swirl brings wine and shops to downtown visitors
Clifton Main Street hosts Clifton Swirl drawing 348 visitors from across Texas on a sunny Saturday evening in downtown Clifton. Attendees toured open shops and eateries, with Mitchell's Grille showcasing prep ahead of an October 1 opening target. Roasting and tastings featured Foster, Woosley, Hallmark, Boyd, and Kay Johnson among others as Tracey Byrd highlighted Fredericksburg Farms offerings at the Blossom Shoppe.

Wreck on FM 2841 Claims two lives near Lake Whitney
On Friday May 13 a 1999 Honda Civic driven by Joseph Dowdy 19 of Waco with Abigail Wachsmann 18 of Hillsboro failed to stop at a sign on CR 1606 near Lake Whitney. A 2007 Dodge Nitro driven by Sabrina Michaud 32 of Clifton could not avoid the crash. Wachsmann died at the scene. Dowdy died later in Temple hospitals after transfer. Michaud was treated and released.
