The Clifton High School band received first division ratings in both concert and sight reading at the UIL Regional Music Contests in Waco on April 25 and 26. It was the only band to score firsts in both categories, amid junior and senior high bands up to Class AA.
The author argues Americans dismiss subtle communist threats until harmed by them. He cites Pearl Harbor predictions and Khrushchev’s UN warning as examples, noting many resist acknowledging danger until consequences unfold. The third Sunday event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 18 at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. All are welcome to attend this community singing gathering.
Clifton Golf Club will sponsor an 18 hole handicap club tournament for its members this Saturday. The event begins at noon with tee off times and handicaps posted by the 1st tee. A barbecue supper follows at the American Legion Clubhouse. Club president Kenneth Nelson announced a work night tonight at 5 30 p.m. urging members to help prepare the course.
Members, auxiliary, and their families of Selmer Erickson Post 322 in Clifton will meet at 7 p.m. Friday May 16. A Post Hamburger supper will be served following the gathering.
The Labor Department approved seven firms in Texas and Oklahoma to train 52 jobless workers under MDTA funds. Clifton hosts two firms Wilson Door and Frame Inc and Clifton Machine Works. Training spans 16 to 40 weeks for woodwork machine operators and machine set-up operators with funds of 31,300 and 7,300 dollars respectively.
Eight Clifton FHA members and their advisor plus three mothers attended the Texas Association State Meeting May 23 at Memorial Auditorium in Dallas. Janet Holder Jeanie Fowler and Virginia Bakke received State Degrees of Achievement. Local attendees included Mrs. M B Jameson Mrs W T Holder Mrs John Fowler and Mrs Olee Bakke delegates Katharine Anz Rita Willmann Beatrice Record Marilyn Apple and Betty McDougal. About 5 000 delegates were present from across the state. Future Homemakers are homemaking students in junior and senior high schools guided by the Division of Homemaking Education.
Clifton's Sprint Relay and Mile Relay teams set regional records at the State Meet in Abilene but did not win. The Sprint Relay finished fifth, just three tenths of a second behind the 51 second winner, while the Mile Relay was eighth, nine tenths off the 4 19.0 state mark. Coach Buddy Ables praised the hard work and improvement over regional times despite the results.
Clifton's City Council discussed street paving asking residents to fund the curb side portion while the city would pave the middle half. Only one block has signed up so far, with 700 block South Ave. O first in line. full-block signups needed before work begins.
A monthly Social Security benefit total of 211000 was paid to Bosque County residents at year end 1968, up 3.9 percent from February 1968. Nationally benefits rose to about 2 1/2 billion, aided by 1967 amendments and more beneficiaries.
Bosque County Farm Bureau members meet May 20 1969 at Iredell School Cafeteria for a covered dish supper at 8 p.m. Host director E B Van Winkle introduces the program on Brush Control presented by Robert Reich County Agent. All members and interested persons invited.
Mrs Ray New of Crawfills Gap was injured in a two car collision at 13th St and Ave G in Clifton Wednesday. The other driver was 21 year old Don Allen Holmes of Waco in a 1969 Pontiac. damages were about $900 to each vehicle. Mrs New was taken to Goodall-Witcher Hospital for emergency care, condition undetermined.
Clifton High School announces the senior play to be presented at 8 p.m. on Thursday May 15 at Betlis Auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend.
