Also recognized were Elder Mrs Herbert Lobhe of San Angelo and Mrs Bul Parner of Fort Worth along with other mothers and eighteen grandchildren noted in the event.

State Secretary Tom Kerkham of Austin spoke at a Clifton Lions Club luncheon in City Hall May 11. He noted there are over 18 Lion Clubs serving 132 nations. The Clifton Lions and Clifton Jaycees reported a profit of 139 62 from recent carnival and calf ticket sales. Visitors included Willard Stomton and R W Stubbs from Moorcroft, Wyoming, where heavy snow fell earlier in the week.

Copperhead Bite At Clifton Golf Course Injures Worker
Reiney Moncrief was bitten by a copperhead while playing at Clifton Golf Course near the Bosque River. The snake wrapped around his ankle. one fang punctured the skin on his big toe. He received emergency treatment at a local hospital, felt unwell Saturday night, but attended church Sunday and returned to work at Clif-Tex Manufacturing Company on Monday.

CHS Junior Senior Banquet Prom Is Enjoyed April 27
Clifton High School held its Junior Senior Banquet and Prom on Tuesday night April 27 starting at 6 30. The Polynesian themed evening featured decorative banquet tables, hula girl place cards, and boys in tropical costumes. Junior Class president Harold Gloff welcomed Seniors while Senior Class president Brent Standefer responded. After a meal with themed dishes, juniors performed Chalk Dust Looney Tunes Air Waves and Serious Notes before the Salsa evening prom began.

Howard Golden Stabbed By Youth At Gatesville Home
Howard Golden a Gatesville State Home guard was stabbed in the cheek by youths entering a dormitory. Doctors say the screwdriver wound narrowly missed his lung and he remained in satisfactory condition at Gatesville hospital. Relatives from Clifton visited him as police investigated the Monday incident.

Clifton High School junior Harold Gloff won first place in persuasive speaking at the University League State Meet in Austin. He earned a gold medal and plaque for his presentation Should the United States Extend Diplomatic Relations to Red China. Harold attended with teacher Mrs Harrie and Mrs Groff, traveling from Clifton with support from local residents.

At a Monday night meeting Clifton City Council named M R Pat White to the role of City Secretary to replace E B who held the post for ten years. White, then employed at Clifton Food Market, will start duties after May 22. Council also voted to strictly enforce dog collar vaccination tags from June 15 and to restrict brush disposal to small bundles tied for regular trash pickup.

Mrs Thorson Dies After Long Illness in Minnesota
Mrs Marion Emelie Hanson Thorson dies in Minnesota after a long cancer illness. Funeral held at Grand Chapel in Minneapolis with Reverend Robert Anderson and Alvin Brouness officiating. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park. Survived by three daughters, three sons, and four grandchildren. Born 1875 in Denmark, she moved to the United States, trained as a nurse, and later served with Reverend P.E. Thorson in Chicago, then China with Lutheran Mission. The Thorsons faced danger during bandit activity in Henan before resuming mission work.

The Clifton gauge shows 5.30 inches of rain since Wednesday of last week with 0.50 on May 6, 2.70 on May 10, and 2.10 on May 11. High winds accompanied the rain but little damage reported in Clifton and nearby areas. Whitney, however, had a tornado causing considerable damage.

Clifton High School senior Ralph Collins placed sixth among 20 at the University Interscholastic League State Golf Meet in Austin. He shot 81 on Friday and 87 on Saturday, facing a rough start in round two while in a key foursome. Coach Richard Liardon praised his performance. Alton Mihlhause, son of local residents, traveled to Galveston with the senior class trip after the meet. Alton also competed in science at the state meet, with results not yet received.
