William M. Smith Dies of Heart Attack at Cranville Gap

William M. Smith, age about sixty, died of a heart attack at Cranville Gap on Tuesday evening May 4 after reportedly listening to radio. Funeral services were held at his home and then at the Retin Chiveh in Cranfill Gap with a company of mourners in attendance. Active pallbearers included James Griasland, Homer Burleson, and Melvin Purcell. honorary pallbearers listed Noah Jones and others. Survived by wife and two daughters Mrs. Ethel Perry of Clifton and Mrs. Hattie Mino Rudd of Cranfills Gap, plus four grandchildren. Mr. Smith joined the Missionary Baptist Church in 1904 and remained active in service.

Death Claims University President Benedict of Texas

Dr. H Benedict longtime president of the University of Texas dies at 67 after a heart attack near the campus. He had led the university a decade and served the school half a century.
