SAN ANTONIO March 28 WPA workers who are qualified for farm work must accept prevailing agricultural wages even if it differs from the WPA scale. Administrator I P Drought said the policy allows no layoffs of workers who refuse untenable private offers and that farmers pay the same wages as others for similar work.
Bosque County farmers are urged to plant their full cotton acreage allotments if able, to support longer staple cotton for military needs. A. G. Schulze, chairman of the county USDA war board, notes increased CCC incentives for longer staple cotton and outlines that 1942 allotments and marketing quotas remain in force despite previous declines.
Chicago dispatch reports a nationwide sugar rationing plan with a moratorium from April 28 to May 11 to precede sales rationing. Officials say individual consumers will register on May 4 6 and 7 at public elementary schools while wholesale users register on April 2 8 and 20 at designated schools.
