Clifton Pand Parents Plan Third Annual Barbecue

Band parents prepare for the Clifton Pand Parents third annual barbecue at the Clifton Civic Center on Saturday April 10 with serving from 5 to 7 pm. All Sports Banquet Tickets On Sale At Local Venues

All Sports Banquet tickets are on sale at Bryn's Service Station Calvert's Pharmacy Service Drug and the high school. Students in the athletic program are selling tickets. The event is Friday March 26 at 7 pm in the Armory with speaker Bob Wright of Texas A&M University. Rooster Club members assist with decorations and food.

Luckenbach elected president of Texarkoma nursing home chapter

Elmer Luckenbach administrator of Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home was elected president of the Texarkoma chapter of the American College of Nursing Home Administrators at its annual meeting. The college promotes professionalism in long term care with 12 seminars planned for 1976. Luckenbach, a fellow since 1970, will help arrange the national convocation in Dallas in April 1977.

Clifton Baseball League Registration Opens for Youths

Registration for the Clifton Baseball League is open to boys and girls aged 7 to 18. Children seven by August 1 are eligible. Forms are available at the high school or elementary cafeterias or by contacting Mrs. Joe Crawson. Deadline is March 31.

Lakeside Village forms volunteer fire department group

The Lakeside Village and surround area residents formed a volunteer fire department with two organizational meetings on February 26 and March 11 at Shackelford's Lake Cabin. About 125 people attended both sessions and officers were elected for six months. A Women’s Auxiliary was formed with named officers. A budget was adopted and over $3,000 in cash contributions has been received. A drive for a fire truck and equipment has begun and a March 25 meeting is planned.

Texas Traffic Deaths Rise 13 Percent in 1975

Texas DPS data show 3,429 traffic deaths in 1975, up 13 percent from 1974 and 262 fewer than 1973’s all time peak. Speir notes 92,510 injury accidents with 138,962 injuries, and totals up 34,402 accidents versus 1974, with mileage at 84.575 billion miles. The rate per 100 million miles was 4.54, aided by the 55 mph limit reducing fatalities despite higher driving.

Radio and pay phone vandalism reported in town

A citizens' band radio was taken from a vehicle on West 17th Street. A Calvert's Pharmacy pay phone was damaged but no money was taken. Two minor vehicle accidents occurred with light to heavy damage to several cars in different blocks, none of which reported injuries.

Bosque County Second in Texas Oat Production in 1975

Bosque County produced 797000 bushels of oats in 1975, ranking second in the state. Farmers harvested about 25000 acres at an average yield of 31.9 bushels per acre, aided by late summer rains. Harvest began in late April and finished in early July after weather delays. Cooke County led with over 816000 bushels.

Rotary County Talent Show Auditions Set in Clifton

Final auditions for the Bosque County Rotary Club talent show will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Bettis Auditorium Clifton Elementary School. Entrants from Clifton Laguna Park and Lake Whitney area compete after earlier auditions from other county communities.

Retired County Attorney George Anderson Settles in Clifton

Former Wichita Falls and Bosque County figure George W. Anderson retires after 56 years in law and moves to Clifton with wife. He served as district attorney in 1945 45 and earlier as Bosque County attorney, later practicing in Longview and Wichita Falls.
