The Clifton Independent School District trustees rehired all teachers for the coming year after an executive session. They also approved a $1200 above base salary for Superintendent Richard Liardon and $1000 above base for Principals Joe Bryan and James Wartick.

All-Sport Banquet to Feature Bob Wright as Speaker
The All-Sport Banquet will be held March 26 at the Armory starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are available from any high school athlete Booster Club members Bryn's Service Station Calvert's and Service Drug. Bob Wright recruiting coordinator and public relations director for Texas A&M University will address attendees. Wright, 48, a Ballinger native, has a 20-year coaching career and has spoken at many state events. He and his wife Tylene have three children. A barbecue meal with baked beef beans potato salad and pie will be served.

Clifton High School seniors will be honored at a Friday banquet in Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church. Baylor University Fighting Bears offensive coordinator Bill Yung will address the group. Yung, a Ranger product and 1956 Cotton Bowl alumnus, joined Baylor in 1972 and helped the team win its first Southwest Conference title in 50 years in 1974.

The Clifton Jaycees plan a white bass fishing contest on Lake Whitney and the Brazos River set for March 28 with a 15 fish limit. Registration runs through March 27 at multiple Clifton area locations or by mail, and weigh-in occurs at Kimbell Bend Park from 1 to 3 pm with prize money for top three finishers.

CHS Stageband Takes Third at UTA Jazz Contest
Clifton High School Stageband finished third among seven bands at the University of Texas at Arlington jazz contest. Denison and Castleberry high schools from Fort Worth placed ahead. Danny Orbeck earned soloist honors on trombone and received a certificate of performance from the National Association of Jazz Educators.

Quiz juveniles on obscene mail
Three juveniles were questioned last week about an obscene letter received in the mail February 21 by a female juvenile. After questioning, the juveniles were released to their parents. An adult male was arrested on a worthless check charge at 9 p.m. Sunday. No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at West 5th St and Ave B. Juvenile authorities may take action against a female juvenile for theft of over $5 and under $20 and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Businessmen to Play Harlem Basketball Team
A group of local businessmen will test their hoop skills against The Magnificent Seven, a Harlem show basketball team, at Clifton High School gymnasium. Athletic director Donald Hennig announced the game for 8 am on Tuesday, March 16.
