Local Couple Celebrates 60 Years With Open House

Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Brown of Clifton marked sixty years of marriage on March 2 1902 with a Sunday ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church and a 2 to 4 pm open house for about 175 guests. The couple previously lived in Clifton and Harmony, raised three children and now reside at 115 South Avenue I Clifton.

Clifton High wins two all district basketball spots

District 22 A coaches named their all district selections. Clifton High School placed one boy and one girl on the first teams. Boys first team includes Groppel and Peevy Lorena Thompson Midway Beezley Hubbard Huntley Connally Alvin Spitzer Jr Clifton. Girls first team features Linda Ice Rives Glen Rose Darlene Shipp Clifton Schwarzensky Lorena Smith Midway Salinas Itasca. Clifton also had several on second teams and honorable mentions.

Personal note on Mrs Kleibrink's surgery recovery

Mrs Bill Kleibrink underwent surgery in the local hospital on March 6. Friends hope she will soon be completely recovered. Mr and Mrs A S Bass and sons Albert Jr David and Tim of Corsicana visited in Clifton last Sunday with Mrs Bass mother Mrs T D Oxford and other relatives.

Weekly Track Sessions Begin in Clifton Meet

On March 6 the first spring Tuesday night high school track meet was held in Clifton with 11 teams including Hillsboro Itasca Walnut Springs Morgan Meridian Dublin Hamilton Gatesville Flat Oglesby. Hillsboro won with Dublin second and Clifton Gatesville tied for third.

Clifton Junior High Captures Hubbard Tournament Title

Clifton Junior High won the Hubbard tournament after beating Blooming Grove and DeSoto before defeating Connally 33 to 22 in the finals. Gary Fredenburg of Clifton earned all tournament honors.

Mrs Schulze Gravely Ill In Jacksonville Hospital

Mrs. Walter Anz returned home after a ten day stay in Jacksonville where she aided her sister in law Mrs. Charles Schulze who remains gravely ill in a local hospital there.

Clifton Lions Club Minstrel Globe Circlin Jubilee

Clifton on March 2 hosted the Lions Club minstrel Globe Circlin Jubilee featuring the Clifton High School Chorus and a full on stage cast. Interlocutor Moe Big Brother Arsenic Snowflake Mr Interlocutor Little Joe Tugboat Hambone Society and others performed with dance numbers by the Jubilee Dancers and Stage Band. Prizes were awarded for best ticket sales and top sellers including Rosemary Jenson Suzanne Turner Clayton Deibert Emmett Stewart Jr. door prizes presented by Lions Club president E B Harris and Mrs Lawrence Ringness.

Alfie Dies in Alpine Truck Crash at 21

Bert E Alfie 21 9 15 of Clifton Alpine dies when a butane truck overturns east of Alpine around 4 30 Monday. He was a second lieutenant in Pecos National Guard and had lived in Clifton since 1961 after stints in Pecos Baylor Waco and Austin. Funeral held at Our Savior's Lutheran Norse with services by Reverends Nelson Gigstad. Interment in Clifton Cemetery.

De Leon Lady Killed When Car Overturned

Mrs. G. E. Morton 82 of De Leon died after a Tuesday morning crash on Highway 6 ten miles south of Clifton. Her husband suffered minor injuries and was treated. Wayman S. Long underwent surgery later, following the incident near Clifton. The Longs recently moved to North Avenue Q.

Mr and Mrs E B Harris learn their daughter Mrs Donald Humphries of Davenport Iowa has been taken to a hospital for pneumonia treatment this week.

Civil Defense Classes Set For Clifton High Monday Night

Clifton Public Schools will start two adult Civil Defense courses at 7:00 PM Monday March 12. One class in homemaking is open to residents 16 and older except public school students and taught by Mrs. M. B. Jameson. the second class for school staff is in the speech room taught by Principal Wester Hensen. Twelve hours of instruction will be offered with options for three or four nights.

Fire destroys home of Paul Jacksons in Coyote community

Fire destroyed the Paul Jacksons home, smokehouse, and garage on the Arnold Brandes place across from the Gus Thiele farm. Mrs. Jackson was at work. Mr. Jackson was in the barn when Pete Kettler spotted the blaze. Clifton Fire Department kept the fire from spreading to the barn and pasture. only the clothes worn were saved. insurance coverage existed on buildings and belongings.

Davis Simmons Dies In Waco Rest Home

Davis P. Simmons 38 1 21 died at 10 15 Wednesday morning March 7 in a Waco rest home where he had lived about five years. He was born January 17 1924 in Clifton and had lived in Clifton 29 years before moving to Cleburne and then Waco. Survived by two brothers and three sisters with several nieces and nephews, funeral services were held March 8 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel conducted by James Montgomery and Len Layne, with interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Latham Named 1962 Central Texas Fair Head

Prices from Clifton Thursday morning show EGGS 29 cents a dozen for large A, 26 cents for A medium and B large, pullets 15 cents a dozen. CREAM 40 cents a pound. GRAIN Oats 70 cents a bushel, wheat 1.80, spring wheat 1.50, mile 1.85, barley 92 cents, yellow corn 1.25 a bushel shelled, 1.10 ear. CATTLE about 866 head offered, market steady from last week. slaughter steers and yearlings 23 to 25.50, medium to good 20 to 23, butcher calves 23 to 25.50, plus further ranges not specified.
