Former Cliftonite Bride of Three Weeks Killed in Accident

Mrs Dorothy Nell Cranfill Booth of Whitney died last Friday in a one car crash on Highway 219 near Clifton. She was 16 years old and three weeks married to Joseph Howard Booth Jr. The crash left her with fatal head, neck, and chest injuries. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Clifton with burial at Crawfills Gap Cemetery. She was a former Clifton High School student baptized at the Clifton church and survived by her husband, mother Ida Cranfill, a brother Milton, a sister Helen, and grandfathers Mance Cranfill and Roy May.

Turner Car Burns in June Fuel Leak Explosion

The Bennie Turner Corvette burned Thursday night June 20 between Valley Mills and Waco after a fuel pump leak sprayed gas on the engine and exploded. The car was a total loss.

Mrs Hulme Returns From Cataract Surgery in Whitney

Mr and Mrs John Outlaw and their son Johnny visited Mrs Hulme in Whitney on Sunday. Mrs Hulme had just returned home after undergoing her second cataract operation.

Tucker Glenn Dies In Local Hospital

Tucker Glenn aged 75 of Meridian died Friday morning June 21 at Clifton hospital after a heart illness. He was longtime president of Farmers State Bank Meridian and previously held top posts in Palestine LaRue Athens. Born September 20, 1887, he moved to Meridian in 1944 and retired May 1 for ill health. Surviving his wife Mrs. Tucker Glenn and three brothers Dan Charlies Howell, and a sister Mrs. Hubert Wright. Funeral services were held June 22 at First Methodist Church Meridian and June 23 at Bailey Funeral Home Palestine with interment at Clifton Funeral Home arranging.

Clifton Gun Club Opens Skeet Range Sundays Near Clifton

The Clifton Gun Club will open its skeet range Sunday June 30 from 1 to 5 PM for members and guests with a skeet shooting exhibition at 5 PM. The club also offers 50, 100, and 200 yard rifle ranges for practice and gun checks. After the exhibition, an annual meeting will elect three directors with light refreshments for members and families. The ranges are on FM 219 (Womack Road) about 2.5 miles east of Clifton.

World Exhibit at Mosque Memorial Museum gains stone wall

Visitors to the World Exhibit on Thursday July 4 will notice a new native stone retaining wall and access walk to the Mosque Memorial Museum. The board and community thank Palmer Olsen for leading the landscaping, which enhances the museum’s appearance.

Double Tragedy at Lake Whitney and Meridian Funeral for Axel Hanson

Two drownings occur in a Lake Whitney accident when a car veered off a cliff injuring Mrs. E. F. Bode and nine year old Susan Kay Bode. The surviving twin Jack rode, father E E Rode and passersby rescued the man and boy. Axel Alvin Hanson, 68, Meridian, dies in his sleep after mowing and resting at home. Funeral held at First Methodist Church Meridian with interment at St Olaf Rock Cemetery.

Dallas Man Drowns At Lake Whitney

Jesse Randolph, 28, of Dallas, was found by Whitney and Meridian Rescue Squads at the mouth of Mesquite Creek on Lake Whitney after reportedly falling from a boat while fishing last Sunday. Rescue units searched the area through Monday night. Mrs. Ross Helton of Dallas is hospitalized here after admission on June 25 and is expected to recover.

Mrs. Preston Cottrell and Mrs. Harvey Lane remain in the local hospital since June 25 with hopes of full recovery. Douglas Railsback returned home June 26 after an appendectomy on June 22. Mrs. Harold Sather from Crawfills Gap had emergency appendectomy June 20 and went home June 26. Mrs. Vada Williams, county clerk, had minor surgery June 25 at Clifton hospital. L. J. Meador of Iredell is listed as a medical patient at Clifton hospital Wednesday this week.

Blacks Again Head Freshman League

The Clifton Black Sox beat the Clifton Green Sox 2 to 1 in extra innings to move back into first place. The week also featured wins by the Black Sox against Turnersville and by Clifton Peewees, while the Sophomore league saw Clifton Red Sox stay undefeated with a 9 to 5 win over Clifton Blue Sox.

Miss Mary Buro of Clifton Dies in Bosque County

Miss Mary Kuro Buro aged 52 years 11 months 24 days died Saturday morning June 22 in a local hospital after a heart condition and blood clots. Funeral June 24 at Zion United Church of Christ Womack with burial in Chase Cemetery. She was a Clifton resident, member of Zion UCC, and formerly worked at Clifton Steam Laundry and local cafes.
