Alvin James will begin duties Monday as Clifton’s new police chief succeeding A L Grissom who resigned May 31. James, a four year Coryell County deputy sheriff, praised Clifton’s progress and spoke of his family. Remaining officers include Patrolmen Homer Waller and Melvin Athey. Legal counsel is Vance McMullen Connally Inc. Bids for a rural fire truck were tabled for study.

Woman Injured In Rural Road Crash
One woman was hurt in a motor vehicle accident on Farm Market Road 219 Thursday morning. Mrs. Danny Patterson of 215 North Ave. T was treated at Goodall-Witcher Hospital Foundation after her pickup collided with a 1959 sedan driven by Percy Lormrude of 208 North Ave. G. Lormrude reported no injuries as Clifton Patrolman Homer Waller investigated. both vehicles sustained total damage.

Don Olson of Clifton Telephone Company told the City Council that growth is continuing with more telephones and pending equipment for 300 additional lines expected in September. He noted delays due to manufacturing and discussed long distance trunk additions and a forthcoming outside plant engineer visit to assess load.

Family Land Heritage Program Initiated in Bosque County
Texas Agriculture Commissioner John C White announced the Family Land Heritage Program to honor farmers and ranchers in Bosque County with land held by the same family since 1874 or earlier. Qualifying families must own at least 10 acres producing $50 or more from agricultural products and be certified by Judge C K Ward Jr. Applications are available by writing to Commissioner White in Austin.
