Lions Plan Ladies Night at Clifton City Hall

Clifton Lions Club will hold a Ladies Night installation for the 1977-78 officers at 7 p.m. on Monday June 27 at Clifton City Hall Civic Center. Cooksey Place of Clifton will cater the banquet meal. First Vice President Edwin Olsen says a prominent speaker will entertain.

County tax rate stays at 80 cents for 1977

The County Commissioners Court in Meridian keeps real and personal property tax at 80 cents per $100 valuation for 1977 with breakdowns for Jury Road and Bridge General and Permanent Improvements. No tax will cover Road Bond No. 8 for Precinct 3. Last year it was $1. The court also discusses a state health district office in the county, an Equalization meeting set for June 30, appointment of Don McDonald as official court reporter for the 220th Judicial District, and the sale of a surplus copying machine to Eddie Nichols for $125.

Fair's Junior Livestock Show plans announced

Plans for the Central Texas Fair include a Junior Livestock Show on August 25 26 and 27 with entries requiring ownership by June 15. Superintendent Leonard Snider outlines calf care fencing vaccination and grooming schedules plus identification tagging in June and August for different show paths.

Caseload climbs as the State Department of Public Welfare transfers a Waco case worker to Bosque County to assist Luan Jackson who serves at least 80 families including 76 children. The June 1 meeting added two new board members and set a July 6 meeting time.

Government report shows Bosque County hosts 219 active business firms with 1 930 Social Security covered workers. 161 firms have four or fewer employees, 22 have five to nine, 15 have ten to nineteen. Local payrolls total 11 272 000 this year up from 7 924 000 in 1973.

Clifton High School reunion for classes of 1954 and 1955

Charges filed against driver in headon crash

Police Chief Al vin James filed three felony counts of involuntary manslaughter against Phillip Le roy Giles of Whitney in a Clifton headon collision on State Highway 6. Three people died and four were injured including Giles. The case awaits grand jury action in Justice of the Peace court.

Two Hurt In Meridian Motor Vehicle Accident

Two persons were hospitalized in Meridian with minor injuries after a motor vehicle accident five miles north of Meridian on a county gravel road. Max Beach and Vivian Peters were injured. both vehicles sustained major damage. Trooper Acey Steel investigated.
