A worried writer fumes about laws he might break over a sleepless night. A noisy mockingbird outside his window harps on tunes from dusk till after midnight as a restored clock taunts with relentless ticks.
Four new teachers join the Clifton Public School system for next year replacing retirees and a resignation. Hans Wimberly will teach science and social studies in the high school and junior high, Janice Collins English and Spanish, Lee Stanley science and math with acting duties and assistant coaching, and Mrs Lee Stanley will teach sixth grade. The 1969 70 School Year Calendar was announced.
Billy Don McLennan 22 from Clifton faces murder with malice aforethought charges after Miss Annie Lee Sadler 20 died from a .22 pistol wound at a home in Clifton. Eyewitness Joyce Erwin describes the incident following an argument at the County Line. Sadler died at a Waco hospital after emergency care at Goodall-Witcher. Funeral services were held at Shiloh Baptist Church.
Bosque County deputies unravel a multi county burglary ring with a double cross. Fifteen suspects tied to car fires thefts and school yard break ins face felony charges. Loot traced from Glen Rose Meridian to Whitney and a junk yard. several juveniles among the suspects.
Over four days from May 29 to June 1, Bosque County sustained three injuries and six damaged vehicles across four accidents. A major one-vehicle crash on FM 219 near Crawfills Gap sent 40 year old G. Martin Carlson and his 9 year old nephew to hospitals with neck and chest injuries respectively. Carlson’s two other children were uninjured.
The Neils Creek Baseball League opened with eight games across four counties. Clifton Blacks moved into the Freshman league lead with a 10 6 win over Clifton Reds, while Clifton Reds and Gap Lions tied 44 earlier. Pee Wee standings show Cranfill Gap Lions Meridian Greens and Valley Mills Green Sox each 1 0 after beating Clifton teams.
Farmers State Bank of Clifton announces plans to begin BankAmericard a nationwide all purpose credit card program by July 1 1969. Chairman Robert B Lane cites Bosque County survey showing demand for a full scale card usable in most business and professional services.
David Alan Amundson, a five year old from 306 N Ave 8, brings his weekly allowance to the Building Fund Campaign Office to aid the new Clifton hospital. The article notes the building will be about 89 000 square feet at roughly 35 dollars per square foot and highlights his young commitment to medical care.
Campaign details show estimated building and equipment costs with Hill Burton grant, local gifts and pledges totaling 630000, anticipated loan financing of 23,968.64, oversubscription to June 2 by 1743 donors, and a remaining balance to be borrowed 396031.36.
