Texas Regents Debate Postwar Faculty Reemployment Policy
The Texas State Colleges regents consider a three section policy for veterans returning from war to reclaim their old teaching posts. One section promises reinstatement if the college job exists and legislative rule allows. A second allows rehire if the absence did not impair the college, with disability protected. The third guarantees former instructors their old grade if the college can reassign the vacancy without harming operations. Debate centers on ensuring veterans receive rightful positions without loopholes.

Poage Describes Method Used To Place Illegal Appropriation In Bill
Dear Friends: Early this week the House passed a measure to fix land bank loan rates at four percent for existing loans and a flat four percent for new ones, while railroads faced a separate appropriation fight. Poage criticizes the inclusion of funds for the Office of Strategic Services and the Committee on Fair Employment Practice, calling it improper and fraudulent amid a broader war-appropriations debate. He notes the bill’s passage over his vote and argues underlying secrecy and procedural misuse. The speech highlights concerns about leveraging executive power, race-based hiring rules, and lack of statutory authority for the committee cited.
