Senate Withholds Allred Nomination To Supreme Court Path
Washington July 24 The bitterly contested nomination of former Texas Governor James V Allred for membership on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals was returned to the White House under a Senate rule on unconfirmed appointments when Congress adjourned for a summer recess. If President Roosevelt wishes to pursue confirmation, Allred must be resubmitted to the Senate. The nomination failed to win floor action after a 9 9 Judiciary Committee vote and remained in committee. Senator O Daniel accused Allred of political ambition and said he should not be seated on the bench.
