Joseph Nelson Retires From 40 Years with Postal Service

Joseph Nelson retired from the United States Post Office Department after more than four decades of service. The Clif ton Post Office staff and their spouses held a beachside barbecue at Cedar Shores Estates to honor him. Postmaster A L Bronstad presented a personal letter from Postmaster General J Edward Day and a commendation certificate, plus a Stetson hat gift certificate from local colleagues.

Biennial Dahl Reunion At Our Savior’s Church Parish Hall

The Dahl family reunion for descendants of Hendrick and Christine Dahl was held July 15 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Parish Hall Norse near Clifton. About 157 attended including out-of-town guests, with a morning church service, covered dish dinner, and an afternoon of visiting. Officers were elected for 1964 and a gift was planned for Clifton Sunset Home. The event featured a program, readings from Grandma Dahl’s obituary, and a page in the family history noting 13 marriages 27 births and four deaths in two years.

Talk Of Organizing Gun Club In Clifton

Local residents discuss forming a skeet and shooting club in Clifton. A meeting is set for Tuesday July 31 at 8 00 PM in City Hall to organize rules and establish ranges for skeet rifle and pistol. Land has been offered if the group forms.

Mrs. M. J. Linberg Dies at 95 in Clifton

Mrs. M. J. Linberg Sr. died at Clifton hospital on July 26 after a brief stay at the Clifton Sunset Home. She was 95 years 4 months 2 days old. Funeral services are set for July 27 at 3:30 p.m. at the Clifton Sunset Home Chapel and 4:15 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Norse, with interment in Our Savior’s Church Cemetery. A full obituary will appear next issue.

Dallas Contractors Win Texas Highway Maintenance Building Bid

Corrin and Crow of Dallas won the contract for the Texas Highway Department maintenance building near the Circle at Meridian with a bid about $62,000 after the first bids were rejected as too high. Work should start within three weeks, and a water well has been drilled on site with Rufus Smith of Meridian to install the pump and casing soon.

Clifton Couple Celebrates Golden Anniversary at Open House

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bernhardt of Clifton celebrated 50 years of marriage with an open house on Sunday July 22 at 1408 West 3rd Street. Their golden wedding occurred July 25 1912 in the Chase area with guest attendance including family from Clifton Dallas Waco Fort Worth Meridian and others. The couple and their children hosted a reception featuring a three tier cake orange blossoms and a gold themed display. They reside on a Bosque River area farm and have five children eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Clifton Black Sox hammered DeLeon 22 to 1 in the Freshman Teen-Age District Tournament opener. Clifton rapped 17 hits led by Terry Bronstad and Bobby Golden, with Felan hitting the only homer. Next games set for July 26–28 determine State play-off entry for Clifton.

Brasher Family Reunion Plans Second Gathering

Clifton market prices and cattle sale results

Prices reported Thursday for eggs cream grain and cattle at Clifton include eggs 26c for large 20c for medium and 13c for pullets. Cream 40c per pound. Grains oats 75c per bushel wheat 2.06, spring wheat 1.75, barley 98c, corn 1.28 shelled 1.35 ear per bushel. About 675 cattle offered at Wednesday sale. steers calves and cows ranged with tops 23-26.50 for slaughter and stocker cattle. hogs top 18-18.70.
