Backyard barbecue honors visiting Steinke and Linda

On June 29 Mr and Mrs Charles Fehler Jr hosted a gathering for Mrs Margaret Steinke and her daughter Linda from Hemet California. Shorthorn Breeders Tour Central Texas Pastures

Shorthorn cattle producers across five Central Texas counties held the fourth Bosque County Shorthorn Breeders tour on Sunday July 7 visiting farms in DeLeon Comanche San Saba Lampasas Hamilton and Coryell counties. Bulls and club calves were viewed with several cows to be shown at Fort Worth and Houston in 1964 and some cattle to be consigned to the Bosque County Shorthorn Show and Sale in Clifton December 9. Long attendance thanked Gene Connors for lunch at the Cattlemen's Cafe in San Saba.

Emil C Herzog Dies Suddenly at 73 in Meridian

Emil C. Herzog aged 73 years 8 months 11 days of Meridian died suddenly of a heart attack at Mesquite on Tuesday night July 16 after visiting his daughter Mrs Charles Marshall. Funeral services were at 2 30 p m Thursday July 14 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church Clifton with interment in Clifton Cemetery. An obituary will appear next week.

Scouts Earn Merit Awards at Tahuvaya

Clifton Troop 76 of the Boy Scouts of America earned merit awards at Camp Tahuaya near Belton. Awards include Mile Swim Patch for Emmett Stewart Jr and Gary Walsleben, and Trailblazer for Roy Stewart Emmett Stewart Jr Gary Walsleben Bill Wright Eric Swenson Seth Witcher Alan Draper Yancy Mooney and Joe Brooks. Clyde Barton Resigns as Clifton Night Patrolman

Clyde Barton resigns from the Clifton night patrol, effective Monday night, due to ill health after serving since 1948. He previously worked with law enforcement in California, Arizona, McGregor, and Waco, bringing 20 years of experience. Mayor E V Stevens said a new night patrolman will be hired by the City Council, though no replacement has been engaged yet.

The Raines Hill reunion gathered at Coyote on Sunday July 14 with over 50 attendees from Fort Worth Long Island Frost Meridian Whitney Waco and Clifton. Annual TT Tergerson descendants reunion at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Parish Hall Norse on July 7. Co chairmen Milton C. Brown and wife led business with minutes from 16 previous reunions and church records. Albert Bertelson elected chairman for 1964 and Homer Olson to organize cemetery care. A noon basket lunch followed with Lauris Huse serving watermelon in afternoon. Former Francis M. Kell home being torn down

The old Francis M. Kell house east of the Santa Fe line on Highway 219 in Clifton is being dismantled. Owned by S E Ragsdale the property may later host a service station. Kell, an early Bosque County settler, built Clifton and farmed land that became part of the city.

Clifton Youth Take Second in Brazos River Safari Boat Division

Alvin and Lawrence Zuehlke of Clifton finished second in the 50 mile Brazos River safari boat division with an 11 hour 42 minute 17 second run in a 12 foot aluminum flat bottom. Dale Bean and Bert Cook placed eighth in the boat division out of 13 teams. The race started Saturday below the Whitney Dam and ended near the Waco Drive bridge in Waco Sunday.

Clifton FFA Members Attend State Convention in Lubbock

Three Clifton FFA Youth attended the State FFA Convention in Lubbock July 17 to 19 with chapters sending Emmett Eary Jerry Golden and Fred Erickson as delegates and alternates. Clifton cattle sale shows steady market with cow declines

About 800 head sold at the Clifton Wednesday auction. Cows 500 to 75 cents lower, other classes steady or higher. Prices ranged from 9 to 25.50 for welfare grades with steers, yearlings, and calves strong. Hogs brought 14 to 14.50 dollars, grains and eggs listed with prices.
