Johnnie Helms Laid To Rest Friday in Clifton Cemetery
Johnnie Helms son of Mr and Mrs J T Ilsims of Garnersville born July 5 1918 attended the local public school and became a leading figure in the 4 H Club earning honors and sharing practical knowledge. He supported church and community youth efforts and served loyally in war welfare activities. Illness forced him to Galveston for an operation, after which he died. Rev Herbert Baur conducted services at the Masonic Temple and Methodist Church with interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Lieut Jesse West hurt in a Saturday night automobile wreck near Pampa while riding with two others who were uninjured. Westley was taken to a hospital for facial cuts and bruises. initial reports suggested a possible facial fracture but later signs indicated otherwise. Aluminum For Defense Drive To Be Started in Bosque County
Bosque County begins a nationwide scrap aluminum collection drive for defense needs. Local chairmen will steer drives July 21 to 30 in each community with detailed plans forthcoming. County Judge Jack Cureton chairs the campaign, aided by four County Commissioners and the County Agent. All proceeds go to defense. aluminum is to be used for national defense with no profit to any industry or corporation. Citizens are urged to donate unused aluminumware and other metal items from homes during the May 21-30 collection period.
