Clifton Seniors Fight For Central Texas League Title Playoffs

Clifton and West juniors will clash in best of three playoff games to decide the Central Texas Senior Teen Age League champion. First game July 19 at West at 8:00 pm, second game July 21 at Clifton, third game if needed at Hillsboro. West leads with one loss, Clifton second with two, Hillsboro third with three.

CPS installing Service Line To Jonesboro

The Community Public Service Company is building a 23 mile high voltage service line from Clifton to Jonesboro to meet summer and future power needs. The project, using 66 thousand volts, will take about three months and tie into Hamilton Gatesville lines at Jonesboro. transformers will be added later. Stevall Construction Co handles the build with Peter Sewell and Robby Richard on site duties.

Revival Services at Fairview Baptist Church this July

Mrs Oswald To Leave Friday For California Convention

Methodist Golden Agers Meet At Clifton July 8

Thirty members of First Methodist Church Golden Agers in Clifton gathered for their monthly meeting at 6 30 Thursday night in the church Educational Building. Organized by Rev. Guy H Wilson, the group has 745 members. A covered dish supper followed by games was served. Guests included Mr and Mrs John Blewett and Mrs George Fossett Sr.

Clifton Lions Hear Imposter Drug Salesman At Dinner

Clifton Lions Club hosted Fort Worth salesman Bob Gary who posed as Dr J W Hayes to criticise education in the Southwest. Club members nearly ejected him before the ruse was revealed, then heard a call for ongoing teacher quality and study time for students. A fried chicken dinner followed, with service from the Clifton Civic Improvement Society.

Miss Delmelia Dunn Named Basque Co Home Demonstration Agent

County Judge Jack Railsbeck announced Miss Delmelia Dunn of Eastland has been named Basque County Home Demonstration Agent, replacing Miss Lucilie Watson who resigned to take a similar post at Brownwood. Dunn begins September 1 and is an Eastland County Instant Agent, Breckenridge native, Breckenridge High School graduate, holds a BS in home economics from North Texas State University. She belongs to Home Demonstration Agent Association, American Home Economics Association, Texas Home Economics Association, and the First Christian Church.

Mrs. Amanda Lynch Dies at 102 in Clifton

Amanda Lynch 102 of Oglesby died at her son's Clifton home Friday July 9 after a fall broke her hip weeks earlier. Born November 11 1862 in Liberty she lived most of life in Oglesby. Survived by three sons and four daughters, 23 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 23 great great grandchildren. Funeral at Oglesby Baptist Church June 11. Interment Post Oak Cemetery. Clergy Reverend Gary Heaton officiated. Attendees from Clifton included F E Lynch family.

Mollie Holt aged 86 or 87 resides at Memorial Hall Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home. Her daughter Mrs Chester Hulme found the hymn scrap worn and saved it in a plastic container. Holt known as Mama to locals played organ or piano for Coon Creek Church when health allowed. She expresses happiness with Clifton care for elderly residents.

Clif-Tex Expands With Two Story Addition Completed Soon

Clif-Tex Manufacturing Company progresses on a two story concrete block building adding 15 600 square feet to its plant. Roofing started early this week with Public Service line work to follow after roof completion. The expansion will store raw materials and finished goods freeing space and is expected to add about 25 workers, bringing payroll and employment figures to 360 000 dollars and 140 employees.

Missionary Preaches At Independent Baptist Church

The Rev. Mack Guerra, recently ordained, preached at the Independent Baptist Church during the 11 o'clock service on Sunday June 11 as he returns from Dallas after attending his mother's funeral. He travels to Old Mexico for mission work and was accompanied by his wife and their seven children. Two Clifton Boys to Receive Lone Star Degrees

Lloyd Hampe and Melvin Prescher of Clifton will receive Lone Star Farmer Degrees at the Texas FFA State Convention in Houston. Hampe, former Clifton FFA president, and Prescher, former vice-president, are seniors in Clifton High School. They join about two percent of Texas FFA’s 40,000 members to earn the honor. The pair, with sponsor Gerald Peacock, travel to Houston for the convention at Sam Houston Coliseum.

Ray Lammert Accepts Equitable Life Post in Dallas

Ray Lammert son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Lammert of Garnerville Route 1 Meridian has accepted a position with The Equitable Life Assurance Society. He begins July 6 in the Farm Mortgage Department for Northeast Texas and will reside in Dallas. He replaces Edwin F Grimes who moved to Houston Rosenberg. Lammert resigns from the Soil Conservation Service where he served two and a half years as Work Unit Conservationist at Granbury. The Lammerts and their two sons Dean and John sold their Granbury home and plan to move to Dallas this week.
