Clifton Little League asks volunteers for District and State tournaments in Clifton. St Midget Boys 10year olds lead events the week of July 13 16 with two Clifton teams plus Esquette and West Help is needed for concessions gate keeping scorekeeping announcing and field maintenance. Games start 6 and 8 pm. volunteers must be in sixth grade or older.
The Bosque Valley Antique Tractor Club hosted a large tractor pull beside the Bosque River in Wall Mills drawing hundreds of machines from Central Texas. About 50 tractors were planned to enter the actual pull with others shown or sold. Announcer Jerry Smith noted the event drew diverse age, size, and color machines.
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Zach Duke, born in Clifton, was named to the 2009 National League All-Star roster as a replacement for San Francisco’s Matt Cain who was hurt by a line drive. Duke, 8-8 in 18 starts with a 3.29 ERA, will make his first All-Star appearance at Busch Stadium.
In Clifton on Saturday July 11 the Girton and Valley Mills Lodges installed officers at Clifton Lodge. Steve McCoy from Iredell and Danny Kymer, district Deputy Grand Master, led the ceremony. McCoy urged perseverance amid tax burdens and urged light from the altar to guide communities. Officers named include Mike Prescher as Worshipful Master, Don Holditch as treasurer, Harold Leigh as secretary, Tom Nichols as chaplain, Charles Tucker as senior deacon, and Earl Curlee as tiler.
The Whitney Arts production Age of Aquarius Reunion runs this weekend July 17 with Allen Laurence directing and a cast of local singers and musicians. The show promises a trip back to late sixties hits as opening night is sold out.
