Sugar supply to be sold by government

Washington July 8 Sales of 21 pounds of surplus sugar now by the War Department have been authorized at a minimum price fixed by the United States Sugar Equalization Board. The sale may not export any stock. Efforts will target buyers in states east of the Mississippi with 14,000,000 pounds in New Orleans storage and 7,000,000 pounds at San Francisco.

Monarchs Cheered in Japan as City Marks Milestones

Tokio celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of moving the capital from Kioto to Tokio and the thirtieth of its municipality. Emperor Yoshihito, Empress, and Crown Prince Hirohito rode in open coaches as crowds cheered. Festivities included historic documents, a cerimonial pavilion, daimyo cortege recreations, lanterns, and a special postage stamp.

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Nash known as Grandma Nash died Saturday at 5 30 p m at her daughter’s home in Clifton age 81 years 3 months and 8 days She had lived in Clifton for 36 years coming from Georgia and was a faithful Baptist member Survived by one son three daughters one sister and two brothers Funeral was held Sunday at 3 p m at Clifton Baptist church with Rev Jas F Hardie and burial in Clifton cemetery
