Oil and Mineral Water Flow From South Bend Hot Well

Clifton's H B Scott has photographed the Stovall Hot Water Well at South Bend in Young County for Nita Miller's Graham News feature. The 1929 drilled No 12 still yields mineral water while Nos 13 14 16 continue producing. the site became a health and entertainment center with bath houses, a hotel, restaurant, and concerts, attracting thousands in the 1930s.

No More Five-Year-Olds in Methodist Kindergarten

The Methodist Kindergarten in Clifton will shift to four year old classes with two groups of twelve enrollment cap per class. Clifton district acts after Gov Briscoe requires five year olds enrollment this fall as trustees plan public kindergarten with possible half day option.

Hutcheson Receives Excellence In Grazing Management Award

J. 1, Hutcheson is honored in the Meridian portion of the Bosque Soil and Water Conservation District for an outstanding grazing program on his ranch between Meridian and Crawfish Gap. A Texas ASRM certificate, presented by Harold King, commends better grasses and seasonal grazing that builds mulch and soil moisture for future growth.

Hall Jr and Allan Construction Win FM 217 Contract

Fred Hall Jr and Allan Construction Co of Waco won the grading base surfacing overpass project on 0.4 mile of Farm to Market Road 217 in Bosque County. The low bid was 191220.89 dollars with Winston Smith as the Texas Highway Department engineer in charge and Brooks Evans supervising. The project near the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railway overpass west of Valley Mills is expected to take about 140 working days.

City Secretary M R Pat White announces Clifton has received a state check for 12 461 32 dollars as the town share of sales tax revenue for the first quarter of 1973.

Grass Fires Quelled on Parm to Market Road 219

Clifton Volunteer Fire Dept. extinguished two grass fires last week on Highway 219 between Clifton and Womack. Firefighters contained the flames before spreading and no injuries were reported.

Petroleum bids sought by Bosque County Commissioners

Bosque County Commissioners plan to open bids for gasoline diesel oil and related products at 9 a.m. July 9 in Meridian. A one year contract with Continental Oil Co ends July 31. They seek bids for 41000 gallons gas oil 31000 gallons diesel and other oil products with deliveries to four precincts and the Bosque County Jail.

Bosque County joins HOTCOG teletype network expansion

The Heart of Texas Council of Governments will add Bosque County Sheriff's Department to its regional teletype network. The grant totals 18201 dollars with a 6067 dollar cash match and part of 80595 dollars in grants for law enforcement in HOTCOG area. County coverage includes Bosque Falls Freestone Hill Limestone and McLennan.

Bishop Stowe to Speak at Clifton Methodist Service

Bishop W McFerrin Stowe of the Dallas Fort Worth area will speak at Clifton First United Methodist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. July 8 with an open house 4 to 5 p.m. to celebrate a $167000 renovation and new educational building. The project involved extensive remodeling and land purchase.

Episcopal Bishop to Visit St James Meridian

The Rt. Rev. A Donald Davies will make his annual visitation to St. James' Episcopal Church in Meridian at 4 p.m. Sunday. Bishop Davies will celebrate the Holy Eucharist and a reception will follow. The Rev. Carl O. Danielson serves as rector.
