Beetle control program praised for effectiveness since 1963
Enacted in 1963 and first invoked in June 1965, the program saw only one landowner refuse permission for control work and the nominal cost. Periodic aerial and ground surveys will continue as beetle activity is expected to rise in spring. Prompt felling and spraying remain the primary means to check spread until researchers develop better techniques.
